Our brains can transport us anywhere, but our bodies still need help to go places! Yet, without going somewhere, our minds can move us forward.

Motivation By Imps… Is That Even Likely?

By 2098, our Planetary Intelligence Neural Network, yes, you read that right, our A.I., may well help our motivation instead of relying solely on our inner voices. Think about it, and it is not so far-fetched. We have moved from in-person meetings with advisors, counselors, coaches, doctors, and therapists to online meetings and video discussions in months because of the pandemic.

Having an A.I. by 2098 does not seem so impossible. It may even be a constant presence in the back of our mind, one we can turn off anytime we like. We may speak to it either of two ways. Perhaps it will be through VLogs or Video Logs dealing with our work and how we are doing with our job, or via MindTranscripts, depicting how we feel about our life. Our Planetary A.I. will grow to be our confidant, mentor, therapist, and even ally in our decision-making process. Yes, I know, it all sounds wild, and although this may still be a little early for such advancements, with a bit of imagination, we can see it take place in the NEWDAWN series!

In our reality, once this connection happens, our families, friends, co-workers, bosses, healthcare workers, even our psychologists may very well be within reach of our thoughts and minds. So, whereas we may have felt alone in the past, we will never be far from one another in the future. Maybe even too much so. And while we deal with alternative ways of being and relate to each other differently, managing the trials of life, work, success, and love will be easier by and with A.I. serving as our assistant in all things mundane. At least, it will be the aim of our new technology.

But while we look at transforming ourselves from the inside, our external environments and infrastructure will also develop in so many cool ways. The evolution will be deep and dramatic in many aspects, although at first, we may not see any discernable differences. Indeed, while the changes are taking place in front of our eyes, we will not always understand the impacts they will have on us because of the layered structures we face globally. This insidious process will affect everything and everyone. It is up to us to ensure that it does so with positive results. Yeah, us, we have more challenges ahead!

Inside Out Transformation – Steps In The Fast Lane

As all aspects of our society will be affected, we can also expect profound changes in our transportation infrastructure. Our interconnected future will also provide us with technological advances, changing our travel experiences with more advanced and effective cool new options! These will highlight remarkable and fun new capabilities. So, hold on for a different kind of ride.

AirBoarding New Airways

If some of us want to have fun while traveling, we will hop on our MTP or Mobile Transport Platform… Imagine small round or oblong disks, similar to what we see today in our current snowboarding or skateboarding. Only these will unfold at the flick of our wrist, or for some of us, activate by an Imp at the base of our brain. Some of us may not be ready for that. So, instead, we will monitor this transportation mode via advanced apps. Effectiveness by then will have become a measure of status for all of us. These devices will hover above the ground at the height of twelve feet or more. The technology will anchor us to the board, providing freedom while balancing our weight in the air as we glide at a speed of 10 to 50 miles per hour. Our infrastructure will link these boards to specific pathways securely tied to automatic airways systems to avoid injuries. But if this way of travel is not for all of us, there is more!

Fast Transport Like FlyCars and Quad-Copter

On January 1886, Carl Benz applied for a patent for his "vehicle powered by gaz engine." The patent – number 37435 – may be regarded as the birth certificate of the automobile. Today, we are all on the verge of driving wireless cars. By 2098, an A.I. will drive us over automated airways in Flying Cars. We can see this unfold already!

Instead of an AirBoard, the more sedate of us will enjoy a Flying Car or FlyCar, single pod, two-seater, or four-seaters for our very own personal enjoyment. We will have access to mini-copters or quad-copters for a quick sky transit above buildings within city limits. These vehicles will come with various names, designs, and features but ultimately will have the same functionality—getting you safely from one area to another. We could even see a novel form of transportation, using magnetic or propulsion technologies, sometimes patented in the early 20th century, eliminating the need for wheels.

Stations or street pods will allow us to wait for the next pickups in specific locations around cities with mini-stores to purchase items while waiting for the next transport. And you better get in line to buy your new flyer!

Managed Airways For Alternate Roads

These unfamiliar vehicles will take to the airways, managed by autonomous driving systems, and making our existing roads obsolete. The advanced features for these vehicles will allow us to work, play, or even sleep during transport. Multiple access levels based on priority, type of vehicles, and service will become options "du jour" available for some and out of reach for others. There will also be dedicated official lines for government and military sectors.

AirBus or SubSonic Trains

But many of us will prefer to grab an airbus or a subsonic train to reach our intended destinations through more public modes to other cities quickly. For long-distances, individual compartments will transform based on preferences shaping the space in a customized way. These magnetic superconducting transports will have zero electrical resistance and travel on rails making the ride smooth, quiet, and pollution-free. Speed will run up to 500 miles per hour for some, while others will achieve over 750 miles per hour. Transit between North America and Canada, the UK and Western Europe, Western Europe and Eastern Europe will be available with an underground transport system that will even go under the ocean at the same incredible speed.

HyperLoop System

Some believe that by 2025, we will ride a Hyperloop system or tubular like transport, shooting pod-like capsules between destinations at considerable speed – 700 plus miles per hour. It is a high-speed ground transportation method, envisioned by Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla in 2013, which uses low-pressure transit tubes and magnetic levitation to move the pods from place to place. This technology is gaining a lot of traction because it is faster than trains, safer than cars, immune to bad weather, resistant to earthquakes, and less damaging to the environment, reducing emissions by 58% compared to flights. Frankly, that alone sold me because anything that helps our planet is a must go!

Commercial Rockets

We can even expect commercial rockets to go from one side of the Earth to the other. Yes, intercontinental travel near space, just outside the atmosphere traveling at speeds of 20,000 miles per hour, will be the latest thing as it may prove not only faster but almost as safe too. Current advances make this likely in the not so distant future, as these rockets will take advantage of zero air resistance, traveling so far that a trip from Paris to New York could take place in 30 to 45 minutes. Still, we will also have access to planes for those unable to afford the rockets, and these will travel at super-high speeds, four or five times the speed of sound and up to 3,500 miles per hour. Imagine how quickly we can get to Japan from Los Angeles?

For the Little Old Us — Self-Healing Freeways

You may as well forget roadblocks and traffic jams because, more than likely, you will be in the air. I hope few of us have issues with heights!

For those vehicles still on the road, the way things are progressing, you will not drive yourself as most insurance companies will find human drivers unsafe and will only rely on robotic and autonomous vehicular systems operated by our A.I. But do not worry, for those of us who still love driving, recreational circuits will be the latest game for adults, becoming the thing to do in your spare time.

One thing none of us will miss, though, is the traditional roadwork we have encountered in our lifetimes. Instead, technology will provide sensors to monitor the roads and bridges and determine the structure conditions for repairs as the self-healing materials deal with cracks and puddles. Even envisioned today, sleeping bacteria will spread inside the road or structure materials to promote this type of improvement. These will be part of the norm and respond to rainwater, filling in the fissures feeding on the particle mixture. This type of preemptive degradation of engineering options will allow better maintenance of our entire road infrastructure.

Smoother Transit

Our transit systems will be entirely interconnected. We will experience, as a result, fewer delays. Imagine everything choreographed in such details that we will no longer miss a train or a flight. Our ground roads or airways will keep traffic moving continuously, allowing for slowdowns but eliminating the need for stoplights. Vehicles will reach out to each other via A.I. at any destination point.

The connectivity will be a plus, giving our homes a heads up with our schedules so our smart homes will assist our lives in the same way as an individual virtual assistant would do coordinating our activities.

According to architects and engineers, homes will also see a transformation as buildings constructed with super-strong carbon-based materials will become taller, their crown floating among the clouds—18 to 24 miles high. These vast structures will also serve as spaceports, supporting launch into space from anywhere in the city.

Into the Future

While there are challenges to these new transportation modes and new technological developments, it is fair to assume that we will see these advances take traction in the years ahead. In NEWDAWN, I have by-passed these with a bit of imagination and, for the sake of drama. Time travel is even part of the equation!
