As crime rates surge, people are turning to licensed bodyguards for security and protection. Because of the increased demand for bodyguards, previously unheard-of career opportunities have arisen, and an increasing number of people are now vying for these job openings. However, before you rush out to apply for the next bodyguard job, you should be prepared. With that in mind, let us discuss the training and skills needed to be a good bodyguard.

Bodyguard Training

Let’s begin by discussing bodyguard training.

A significant number of people who want to learn how to become a bodyguard are clueless about the minimum educational requirements for the job. But it is pretty straightforward. A high school diploma is all that is needed to enroll in bodyguard training schools. After completing your bodyguard training, you will apply for a bodyguard license and find work in the industry.

However, it would help if you kept in mind that an overwhelming majority of bodyguards are former law enforcement or military personnel. This comes as no surprise considering that ex-law enforcement or military staff have the requisite training and experience. Many of the scenarios they will encounter as bodyguards will already be familiar to them. They were most likely exposed to more dangerous situations while serving in the military or as law enforcement officers.

Bodyguard Skills

The following are some of the essential skills you should have if you want to be a successful bodyguard...

  • You must enjoy and be pretty good at planning to plan out your clients' movements successfully. Consider the bodyguard of a celebrity. A celebrity will attend a lot of events on a typical day. It is their bodyguard’s responsibility to plan how they will arrive and leave from these events. Furthermore, the bodyguard should determine the best routes to take, including exit strategies in an emergency.
  • You must be able to work well with others. The job of a bodyguard entails dealing with many individuals daily, so you must be able to communicate with people on various levels. For example, if you are a business executive’s bodyguard, your client would prefer that you converse intelligently with his or her business partners and clients.
  • It would help if you enjoyed being alone. Your bodyguard job requires that you stay out of your client’s way on many occasions, whether it is waiting for him or her at their home or waiting in the car by yourself while your client conducts personal business. Unless it is an emergency, your client may not want you to be involved in their company. However, just because your client requires privacy does not mean you should lower your guard. It would be best if you always were on the lookout for the first sign of trouble. This way, you can respond to any situation quickly and keep your client out of trouble.

Conclusion

If you enroll in the right bodyguard training course and master the skills mentioned above, you will be one step closer to becoming a bodyguard in 2021.
