Time and again our country needs an organization at Central Level to enforce law and order and ensure the safety of its citizens. In India, the umbrella term for these organizations empowered by the Central Government is Central Police Organization.

The organizations perform various duties such as policing as described above. The administrative structure of CPO has moved beyond policing and is involved in investigation, prevention of crime, handling civil disorder, preventing anti-national activities and external threats like espionage, terrorism, border incursions, and all activities that the Central Government deems fit in the interest of the Nation. Delhi Police

Another organization worth mentioning is Delhi Police, which is under Ministry of Home Affairs. Its jurisdiction is limited to NCT or National Capital Territory comprising of 15 districts.

While mentioning Delhi Police we should also take into account IPS which is All India Civil Service akin to IFS and IAS. It differs from other CPO Organization although under the Ministry of Home Affairs its enrollment exam is UPSC or Union Public Service Commission.

CAPF

This Central Police Organization is an armed body responsible to protect the Nation from internal threats. The primary bodies responsible for this roll are:

  • CRPF
  • SSB
  • NSG
