Tips For Your Interior Design Project
Posted: May 29, 2021
Should I hire a professional interior designer? This is a question that many of us ask before starting an interior design project.
There are also quite a few common myths that many home owners have when they ask themselves this question. In this article we look to break down some of the most common misconceptions associated with getting a professional designer in:
"I simply dont have the budget to get a professional - it will cost a fortune!"
Here we need to look at the massive potential time savings that one can get from employing an interior designer. Added to this, when you hire a quality designer, there are also potential savings to be made in both tradespeople and suppliers. When you deal with a designer, they generally have a solid working team of suppliers and tradesmen. Sometimes when ‘buying blind’ and employing tradespeople and using random suppliers, firstly it might end up costing your more, and secondly you may be more likely to get let down when you don’t know said people and companies.
"I could easily do this myself"
Although it might look easy, there is actually a lot that goes into an interior design project. Depending on the size, it might involve a lot of communication with building control, health and safety considerations and much more. Even coordinating all the different tradespeople and suppliers is a huge job in itself. What the interior designer gives you is a buffer, and allows you to deal with one person who is project managing, which can really take a lot of the stress out of the equation.
"Most interiors designers will simple fluff a few cushions and help with paint colours"
Again, this couldn’t be further from the truth, but is a common misconception. A qualified interior designer will have studied for up to five years to get their degree. This will mean they will be up on all the latest health and safety and building control regulations, architecture, construction, materials, drawings and plans, CAD and much much more.
