Scrum's halftime contract with 22 caps expired at the end of the season and sparked widespread interest from other clubs.

But he decided to stay in Arms Park meaning he is still eligible to enter Wales under the WRU 60 cap rules.

He is the last member of Wayne Pivac's six-Nations championship team who can still solve his own future problems, but now he has joined Alun Wyn Jones, Aaron Wainwright, and Willis Halaholo. The ranks of Lowe, Elliot Dee, Wyn Jones, Leon Brown, Jarrod Evans, and Ryan Elias agreed with a new deal to remain in Wales.

You also saw British onwards Thomas Francis, Will Rowlands, and Will Griff John join these areas, as well as Rhys Priest land in Bath.

As part of an elite team of 38 home players, Williams' salary will be determined through WRU's salary classification system. The final determination may take some time, but now everything is settled.

The 26-year-old said in a comment about putting pen to paper: "I'm very happy to agree to this new contract and stay in Cardiff with a lot of guys I've met.

"Matt Sherratt is back and especially when Dai Young is back in power, we have a lot of exciting talent and a lot of potentials to move forward.

"I want to be a part of it. It would be great if I can help this club win more trophies."

"I am thankful to be able to stay here and look forward to returning to Arms Park in the near future, where many people will participate."

Since his debut in the Blues in 2013, Williams has made 102 appearances for the region, scoring 18 goals, and also establishing himself in the Welsh team.

Cardiff Blues Rugby Director Day Young said: "It is very important for us to keep Tomos. We are now trying to keep all the players we want to keep. This proves that the club has had a difficult year.

"This means that we have maintained a real strength and depth in this position, which is very important for our competitiveness and to ensure that the players continue to challenge each other.

"Of course, he has that x-factor, we have all seen the devastation of Tomos holding the ball. He's worried about the defense, but his overall play is also very good."

"But as the game goes on he will only get better and better and last year he was frustrated with injuries."

Williams missed the South African Lions Tour option after his Six Nations game was interrupted due to a torn hamstring as a shoulder injury prevented him from competing in the fall international competition.

But he is now recovering and firing again, scoring two efforts in the Rainbow Cup match between Limerick and Munster last weekend.
