2. Industrial Multipin Sockets

In general, Industrial Multipin sockets are used in polyphase systems, or during protection from natural hazards. They accommodate a connection to the electrical mains rated at higher voltages and currents than house sockets. Industrial outlets usually have weatherproof covers, waterproofing sleeves, and are interlocked with a switch to prevent any unintentional disconnection of an energized plug. Sometimes these sockets are also approved for coal mines or petrochemical plants, where flammable gas may be present. All of these industrial sockets have an earth connection, but sometimes don't have a neutral as three-phase loads like motors do not need the neutral. Such plugs contain only four prongs. Countries have their own standards and regulations when it comes to industrial multipin sockets, like the color-coding of wires be different from the small mains plugs.
