Caregivers Education – How NAHCE educates students

The National Association of Home Caregivers Education (NAHCE) educates and trains people to become professional caregivers. It is a non-profit organization. It was established in 1974 with the founding of the NAHCE as a division of the National Council on Home Care. It was formed to provide information, support and training in home health care policies and practices, and to educate the public about the value of a caring and supportive family caregiver. In the states of Arkansas and California, the organization has helped to develop home health care policies that have been implemented in different counties and cities.
The Caregivers Education program was developed to train aspiring family caregivers. Caregivers Education programs help prepare the students to become responsible and knowledgeable caregivers, who are ready to take up the responsibilities of this demanding work. Caregivers Education curriculum emphasizes on three key aspects of being a family caregiver: providing emotional support, developing a sense of safety and independence, and accepting and tolerating others' behaviors. Caregivers Education helps students to understand that their help is needed by others who need it most, through the provision of personal care.
Caregivers Education is also geared towards preparing students to work as professional home health care professionals. Caregivers Education prepares the student to work with patients, encouraging family members to participate actively in the care of the elderly and mentally ill, in order to improve their quality of life. The programs train students for different work environments like home health agencies, nursing homes, mental health clinics, home health aides and rehabilitation centers.

The Caregivers Education Programs is conducted by the states as well as by the schools themselves to train and certify home healthcare and elder caregivers.
