Business Management refers to the art and science of managing a commercial enterprise. The term, "Business Management", is widely used in all fields of endeavour, including Business, Tourism, Education, and Healthcare. The key aim behind Business Management is to achieve a balanced economic return. To achieve this objective, a business manager should be able to understand the needs and priorities of the business environment, take into account external risks and opportunities, formulate a strategy, implement that strategy, and monitor and control the performance of the business. There are various aspects of business management that will contribute to the achievement of these goals. A business manager must possess certain essential leadership skills. The Oxford English Dictionary definition of a business manager is "a person in control of a business or firm who has skill and knowledge of planning, organizing, controlling, and investing for the benefit of others". These skills are necessary to be a successful Business Manager. The ability to influence and motivate others is one of the most important leadership skills required by business managers. Leadership does not only come naturally but can also be learnt. Those who aspire to become successful Business Managers will need to acquire leadership skills through a proper Business Management Degree. An MBA (Master of Business Administration), Executive MBA (diplomas), and other formal educational training can equip you with the skills to lead effectively in the business world. You will also gain the understanding of the need for strategic planning, development of goals and strategies, and how to manage resources and finances effectively. Business Management requires a high level of communication skill. This skill will allow you to lead your team of employees effectively. You will also have to make the right decisions in order to steer your business towards success. A good business management degree program will teach you how to communicate with your team members, deal with issues and concerns, motivate your team members to work towards common goals, and keep them committed to the achievement of your goals. Communication skills are used to oversee and plan strategies that will bring success to your company. Business Management involves analysis and evaluation of strategies, and implementation of those in an effective manner. Business owners usually delegate their day to day tasks to their employees, especially in businesses where employees are paid on salary. As a Business Manager, you are expected to make important decisions regarding payroll, finances, sales, marketing, and customer service. Business management degree holders also play a key role in overseeing business operations and handling negotiations between the different parties involved in a business transaction. Business managers also play a pivotal role in setting company goals and objectives, as well as in implementing plans to achieve those goals. Another crucial skill that you must acquire is self-confidence. A successful business management degree holder will always believe in his or her own abilities, regardless of the challenges in front of him or her. A confident business manager knows that he or she has the ability to shape and mold the company's goals into reality, and he or she will do everything in his or her power to achieve those goals. Furthermore, a successful business management professional knows how to make critical decisions with limited resources, and he or she does all that he or she can to achieve the company's goals. Strategic management is another essential skill that you need to master. Strategic management is concerned with predicting, anticipating, and even determining the course of events that could affect the future success of a business. In business management, strategic management is about planning, organizing, managing, and operating a company in a manner that is consistent with its values, its structure, and its goals. Therefore, strategic management is an integral part of business management. Strategic management also involves decision making. A successful business management professional makes sound decisions regarding resource allocation, production management, sales management, marketing, and office design, just to name a few. Business Management requires many other skills such as financial management, inventory control, cost accounting, human resources management, and production planning. These are not, however, all that business management encompasses. As mentioned above, it involves decision making, organizing, managing, and manufacturing or creating products that meet customer requirements. It also involves developing strategies and advertising and marketing campaigns that bring in customers. Finally, business management also includes aspects of finance such as budgeting, financial planning, cash management, and lending. Therefore, if you want to excel in your career, you have to master each of the essential skills needed for business management.
