Do you have a catch and buckle with severe pain when you climb the stairs? Imagine you fall suddenly, and you are unable to get up. In these conditions, you not only experience knee pain, but you'll feel many symptoms associated with it.

Let us look into the associated symptoms in addition to knee pain. But before that, let us see why the symptoms are inter-connected. In the end, we'll explain how

TGFXUour Medica Stem Cells Clinic provides regenerative medicine to get rid of these symptoms.

So, let me first tell you about your knee anatomy.

Anatomy of knee joint

The knee joint is made up of bones, ligaments, tendons, cartilage, and bursal sac. All these parts work in coordination with each other to make you walk, and bend down, and jump.

Bones: The knee is composed of three types of bones. They are the patella, femur, tibia. The knee joint connects the thigh bone (femur) and the shin bone (tibia). It is also connected to a protective bony cover named knee cap (patella). The condyle is a part of the knee joint, made up of the rounded protrusion of the tibia and femur.

Ligaments: Ligaments hold the bones and cartilages together. Ligaments are two types: ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) and PCL (posterior cruciate ligament). PCL lies at the back of the knee joint, and ACL lies at the front of the knee. To stabilise the knee joint, ACL & PCL hold the femur and the tibia together.

Tendons: It is the tendons that connect both the bone and the muscle. Tendons consist of two types. They are the patellar tendon and the quadriceps tendon. The patella is connected to the quadriceps tendon's large thigh muscles, which is called as quadriceps muscle. The patellar tendon is attached to the tibia.

Meniscus or knee cartilage: There are two types of knee meniscus. They are medial and lateral. It is situated between the femur and the tibia. It aids in the bodyweight distribution and protects the bones from frictions.

Bursa sac: The bursa sac is formed of lubricating fluid that acts as a cushion between the middle of the bones in the knee joint to reduce friction.

The function of the knee joint

With the help of the hinge, a door that opens and closes the knee joint is considered a flexible hinge that helps in movement. With the help of the knee joint, you can move your leg side to side and from front to back. If there is an improper joint movement due to trauma or due to the usage of worn-out shoes, there can be acute pain. Likewise, the knee is a weight-bearing joint. Because of obesity, there will be excess pressure on the knee joint. This may lead to degeneration, wear and tear, or cartilage damage.

The knee parts are connected; hence, you may experience many symptoms like knee pain.

Signs and symptoms

The location of the pain and its seriousness may defer based on the cause of the problems. The various symptoms and signs connected with knee pain include:

  • Stiffness

  • Weakness

  • Instability

  • Inability to stretch the knee

  • Crunching or popping sound

  • Inflammation

  • Warmth sensation to the touch and redness

  • Restriction to the movement

Symptoms that need doctor consultation:

  • With fever having severe knee pain

  • You can't take your body weight on the knee

  • Finding leg or knee deformity

  • Having severe knee pain with an injury

  • Evident inflammation on the knee or having limited movement

  • Having all the above-said symptoms that worsen with passing days.

Don't consider all the knee pains as serious. But it can lead to joint damage and disability if the pain is severe and left untreated.
