For some people, a trip to the beach is the perfect time for a lazy day, spending hours in the water, picking seashells, and cooling out at their beach tavern. Others see a trip to the ocean as an opportunity to relish in any number of adrenaline-driving water sports.

Who wouldn’t like to relish in some of the most adventurous activities? Most people favor this over other activities because it’s a blast and you can often indulge with friends and family. Water sports are not only enjoyable but also keep you fit and healthy. What do you need to do to practice watersports?

Just enough enthusiasm to plunge into those waters and the necessary drive to experience the inexperienced.

Those who found themselves among this group of adventure seekers are spoilt for choice when it comes to water activities options. Sailing, snorkeling, scuba diving, and more – the water holds something for everyone, regardless of your experience or skill level. One only needs to discover which activity sparks the most interest or gets the adrenaline flowing.

Here are some of the hottest water sports and what makes them so thrilling.

  • Waterskiing & Wakeboarding

Not many sports involve going fast, flying, and being on the water all at once. One of those is driving a boat or boat racing, and there are age and location restricting laws for that.

The sports that meet those criteria and don’t have age or legal restrictions are water skiing and wakeboarding. Ok, but which one is easier?

There is not a clear answer to this. Whichever is easier for you is based on which sports you learn first or on the muscles you have that are already strong in your body. Like snowboarding or skiing – the one you learn first is the one that will be easier for the rest of your life.

Wakeboarding and waterskiing both make use of boats to tow you at high speed. As the name implies, wakeboarding requires you to wear a small board (similar to snowboarding), while water skiing involves skis.

Both sports require great coordination and strength as you will need to pull off stuns and perform tricks while participating – flips, jumps, turns, and more.

If you’re a ski, surfing or snowboarding adept already, wakeboarding is a great way to start your summer and keep yourself fit and healthy. The best part? Having such a great time on the water will make you forget how much you’re exercising.

  • Scuba Diving

Most of us have traveled to some idyllic beach destinations during our much-deserved holidays, evading the noisy, stressful city life and routines to a more slow-paced, "otherworldly" tropical paradise. We then are able to relish the blue crystal water from the shore, lying under a tree dancing gently with the breeze, and in the middle of this scenery appear people carrying big thanks and wearing neoprene wetsuits going or returning from a dive.

Ever wonder how it is like to deep dive those crystal waters? Well, this could be your summer because you don’t need to be a professional to relish those deep underwaters. The good news is that anyone can dive.

Some people are trapped into thinking that diving is a dangerous extreme sport that demands perfect body conditions and youth. Being in good shape is an important part as it helps with air control and buoyancy. Apart from that, anyone can dive.

  • Sailing

Most of you consider sailing to be an old man’s water activity. The thing is, these individuals are deeply mistaken. Contrary to many inexperienced beliefs, sailing is a very active pastime that requires strenuous physical effort from partakers. For those who are eager to try new water experiences, sailing can be a great form of exercise.

The best part is that you will also have plenty of prospects to anchor and relax while on the water. With the right boat, you can entertain your friends, have a meal, a few drinks, and relish the peacefulness of being out on the open ocean.

Sailing has much to offer in terms of rewards, not the least of which is that it’s simply so enjoyable. Imagine the breeze touching your face, the white sails billowing against the blue sky, and the gentle motions of the boat as it neatly slices through the water. Sailing enthusiasts often say that sailing is more than a simple water activity – it’s a lifestyle.

  • Surfing & Bodyboarding

Surfing has been practiced for thousands of years and has made its appearance in many cultures. Around the world, we’ve seen evidence of people catching waves both for fishing and for fun since prehistory.

If you’re out and about the ocean, there is no time like the present to ride those waves for the first time. Surfing requires patience to wait for the right wave and long stretches, but there’s no feeling to compare when the right wave appears. In surfing, how you synchronize with the wave matters more than you think. You aim it as it rises behind you. You paddle along with a few extra stokers, and there you are – your board lock-in.

The same goes for bodyboarding. You need to catch the wave aboard a floating board – only this board is made primarily of foam and is not made for standing up. Bodyboarding works great for those who aren’t really ready for surfing, or you don’t have waves big enough for surfing.

  • Snorkelling

The sea is full of wonders just below the waves. There are schools of fish with colorful scales, intricate and radiantly tinted coral reefs, and rock formations that predate the continent. Snorkelling is for anyone regardless of age, so you don’t have to worry much. Rent or purchase a set of goggles, some good flippers, a snorkel, and go diving.

Not alone? Worry not because snorkelling is one of the best water sports families can do together and is also a good watersport for kids.
