The oil breakdown tester PortaTest serves for testing the electric insulation capability and voltage proof of insulating oils. The tester is designed solely for testing electric insulating oils. Any usage other than this is regarded as not appropriate. For any damage resulting from inappropriate usage, the manufacturer/supplier cannot be hold liable; the user bears all risks. Before the tester is switched on for the first time or after it has been transported, it needs to adapt to the ambient temperature first. Please unpack the device and put it on a table. You should wait at least 30 minutes before switching it on.

The testing device has been designed according to the latest developments in technology, checked and is therefore operationally reliable. In case the tester is maintained or repaired improperly by persons not authorized by Amperis, the liability will in any case be passed on to the owner. The same applies if the testing device is operated in any other way than described in this manual. (See chapter Operative range and appropriate usage). The user is obliged to operate the tester only in perfect condition. Amperis Products is liable for mistakes and omissions, with the exception of further claims, only within the framework of the guarantee commitments in the order confirmation (respectively the commitments in the offer). In view of the permanent development and improvement of our products, we reserve the right for technical modifications at any time. Such modifications, mistakes and misprints do not imply a claim for damages. Furthermore, only original Amperis spare parts and accessories may be used. For any damage arising from non-observance of the instructions in this operating manual Amperis Products S.L. do not assume liability.

Basic test process

Below please find the principle execution of an oil test:

1.Start test

2.Select testing standards / select or define user-standards

3.Measure and enter ambient temperature (not with ExpertMode on )

4.Select test vessel with the respective electrodes (not with ExpertMode on )

5.Adjust the distance of the electrodes (not with ExpertMode on )

6.Fill oil into the clean test vessel

7.Insert test vessel into the oil tester

8.Close test cover

9.Enter number of the test (not with ExpertMode on )

10.Start test

11.If necessary, print out or store the test results after the test

The test sequence usually consists of individual disruptive breakdown test steps that are performed one after the other. The connection of the high voltage is preceded by a settling time. Now, the voltage is continuously increased until a disruptive breakdown occurs. As soon as a disruptive breakdown occurs, the voltage is switched off very fast. For stirring the oil, the agitator can still be on. The complete process is defined in the standards. Test times, agitator activity, etc. are automatic as defined in the standards. The process cannot be influenced. If different processes are required, it will be necessary to generate user-specific programs.
