Grass fed dairy comes up with significant benefits over other dairies. It provides satisfaction to the consumers regarding the production and maintenance of the dairy products that they use. With increasing awareness, the number of people favoring grass fed dairy is increasing.

As the demands are growing, so is the effective investments by dairy farmers to breed their herds on grazing lands.

But what is Grass fed dairy?

Grass fed dairy is where cows are fed a forage-based diet. During on-season, farmers collect all the dry collections from their grazing lands which are then consumed by the cows which provide supplements and certain minerals to them.

When the season is off, consume all forage-based feeds and certain cereals crops. Prominently, oats, barley, grass, and clovers are mostly used.

These farmers maintain various forage crops that are sown and harvested during various seasons throughout the year. But, it's not as easy as it may sound. Farmers really work hard as it is quite necessary to maintain a fine amount of forage production along with looking after the soil health, and of course the animal health.

What is the effect of milk produced by grass fed cows?

No matter how necessary a nutrient is, excessive of anything can be fatal. The human body necessarily needs various nutrients, and fatty acids, omega 3 and omega 6 are an integral part of that necessity. However, excessive or insufficient consumption of these nutrients may harm the human body. Having farm-fed dairy products rightly balances these three nutrients making it easy for the human body to maintain its health and immune system.

Coming to the fatty acid profile in the milk of grass fed cattle, these cows are divided into three categories based on the percentage of forage given to them in their diet.

Conventional dairy: Half of the diet is forage-based while the rest of the half is in the form of supplements and grains

Grass fed dairy: their entire diet is organic in the form of grasses, legumes.

Organic dairy: they receive about 75% of their diet on a forage basis while the rest in the form of grains and supplements.

After prior research and analysis, it has been found that nutrients concentration in products of grass fed animals and grass fed beef was by far the best.

Way forward

Grass fed dairy farming can actually lower costs for farmers. With the availability of enough land and thought-out plans; farmers can bring themselves benefits and this breed-centric approach can actually harness the goal of better public health as well.

Moreover, customers can leverage the maximum benefits if farmers turn to grass fed farming. With its richness in nutrients like omega-3 and CLA, grass fed dairy products and grass fed steaks meet many of the health-based food requirements of various sections of the population.

Conventionally, it has been noticed almost entire of the omega-6 requirements of the body are met by eating vegetable oil and fried food, which actually is not a good thing. These sources can actually target the body via various diseases making a healthy life inevitable.

Hence, switching to grass fed farming and its products is crucial and necessary in many ways.
