As attractions open up after the pandemic, hygiene is a vital consideration so families can feel safe to enjoy themselves with fun holiday activities.

The last eighteen months have been tough for us all, but as restrictions continue to be eased there can be a mix of emotions about socialising again. Whilst it is exciting to think about the things we can start to do again, it can also be daunting after so long in and out of lockdown. For some amongst us, there can be some level of anxiety about venturing out and about again after these recent experiences.

However, there are some helpful things in place that could help put your mind at ease. There are currently stringent requirements regarding the hygiene for venues you may be considering visiting, which could provide some welcome reassurance. We have all found some fun things to do outdoors, as this have felt easier and safer for some time. However, with vaccinations continuing apace and indoor activities opening up, there are loads more options out there for us all.

Fun Holiday Activities

There are lots of possibilities for fun holiday activities as the summer approaches. The restrictions on our lives have led to some children missing out on fun first experiences. A first trip to the cinema can be a wonderful thing. Seeing favourite characters up on the big screen with a container of popcorn or packet of sweets is a real event.

Museums and art galleries can be fantastic places to take the children. In fact, so many of them have amazing interactive displays that will interest and engage the whole family. Check out what there is in your local area, as there are often unexpected attractions you didn't know about where you don't have to travel too far from home.

The local leisure centre can be a great option for a fun day out too. Kids love an opportunity to splash about, and many pools now even have the added fun of water slides. Some leisure centres even have added fun holiday activities like climbing walls or gymnastics sessions. It could be an ideal opportunity for the children to try something new. Alternatively, look for a specialist climbing centre or indoor ski centre. The chance to experience snow in the summer will be wonderful for many kids. So many children have missed out on so much over the past year that it is tempting to find some extra special experiences so they can have a real treat.

And, of course, there is the ever popular soft play centre. Parents will want to unleash the kids so they can have a coffee that is still hot while the children run riot in a safe environment! Soft play has been missed during the restrictions imposed across the country. Now we can safely revisit them it could be fun to explore one you've never been to before as well as old favourites.

Hygiene Considerations

With all the concerns over the last year, hygiene may be very high on your list of considerations. There are significant hygiene and safety measures implemented at most venues now. Most venues will need to be booked prior to arrival, and it will be advisable to check social media or websites for any updates before leaving for a day out.

At present face coverings will be required for indoor areas. For some activities there may be temperature checks required before entry. There may be reduced numbers to ensure there is plenty of space for social distancing, and be prepared for one-way systems to be in place to assist with this.

Hand sanitisers are now a familiar sight, and these should be expected on entry and at various points around a venue. Locations with high contact, such as soft play areas, will have enhanced cleaning measures in place. High-frequency touch points will be regularly disinfected, and there may be specific sessions to book so deep cleaning can be conducted between each slot.

Staff with many close contacts with customers will be wearing protective equipment such as face masks, disposable gloves or eye protection.

It is advisable to check with the venue before attending, as the measures in place can vary. However, the majority of locations are following government guidelines stringently and doing everything they can to protect and reassure their customers.
