Outstanding Fiction Books by Indian Authors

Indian authors have introduced us to many precious fictional pieces of literature. A lot of them have won awards for their efforts as well. Indian English literature may not have a vast history but is nonetheless rich with many masterpieces. Here are a few works of fiction by Indian authors that definitely need to be on your Must-Read list. I have included books by many Indian authors like Amitav Ghosh, Anupama Gupta, Mulk Raj Anand, etc. How many of these have you read?
- The Great Indian Novel by Shashi Tharoor: This satirical novel by Shashi Tharoor recreates the Hindu epic Mahabharata within the context of the Indian Independence Movement and its following decades to become one of the most exciting reads in contemporary Indian literature.
- Untouchable by Mulk Raj Anand: The evil of untouchability is the main theme of the novel Untouchable. It draws our attention toward the miseries faced by the untouchables. The injustice, humiliation, and degradation faced by a particular section of society are even visible in modern Indian society.

- Palace of Illusions by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni: The Palace of Illusions: A Novel is a 2008 novel by award-winning novelist and poet Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni. It was released by Doubleday. The novel is a rendition of the Hindu epic Mahabharata as told from Draupadi's viewpoint, namely, that of a woman living in a patriarchal world.
