A lot of people tend to get extremely territorial when it comes to their bathroom space. A germ-free and clean bathroom is a dream, especially if you have to use the common bathroom. For instance, the common bathroom in your office, restaurants, and sometimes even at a family function. However, whatever your situation may be, below are 5 essential rules of bathroom etiquette that you should follow.

1. Try to avoid Chatter

A bathroom is not the ideal place to chat about your personal or business affairs or even hold long personal conversations. Always remember that there are other people present there as well, who should not be forced to listen to something they did not sign up for.

2. Knock the door first

Always knock on the door first to ensure if the bathroom is occupied or not. Another option that you can opt for, hold the door handle and turn it once. If the knob doesn’t move then the bathroom is occupied. Moreover, don’t jiggle the door handle several times in order to avoid disturbances. Also, do not knock on the door that is locked, head towards the available bathroom.

3. Close the door properly

At first, this might seem like a no-brainer, but you will be surprised to find out that a lot of people sometimes just forget to close the door behind them. When you close it, make sure it clicks. And, if you are in a public place, don’t forget to lock it, because if someone accidentally walks in on you, not only will you feel embarrassed, but the other person as well.

4. Leave no trace behind
