What is Osteoarthritis?

Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis and can affect any joint in the body. Human body has protective cartilage that provides support to the ends of the bone. But with time, that cartilage wears down from the bone.

Talking about the joints that tend to bear most of our body weight or used a lot in everyday life are more likely to face osteoarthritis. When a joint develops osteoarthritis, the shielding layer of cartilage thins and so it becomes uneven, making the surface rough. Hence, the free movements between the bones are impacted. In the meanwhile, the cells that are present in the joints area get in the action to try to heal the damaged or worn out part of the cartilage. This healing leads to the structural changes that lead to conditions like osteoarthritis.
