Under Provincial Nominee Program, an applicant can apply to a particular province for which his profile is eligible. Most provinces in Canada have got into agreements with the federal government that permits them to "nominate" applicants of their choosing to facilitate their permanent residence in Canada. Provincial nominee programs allow provinces and territories to nominate particular foreign nationals to apply for their Canadian permanent residency. Provinces and territories nominate applicants on the basis of the Labour market and economic requirements of each territory or province.

Once an applicant is nominated by a province or territory, then the applicant receives a nomination certificate which needs to be submitted with their application to the Federal Government for their Canadian permanent resident visa. Almost every province and territory has a Provincial Nominee Program. If you intend to apply for the Provincial Nominee Program, then you must intend to live in the province.

Every Provincial Nominee Program has various streams that applicants can apply under and they generally fall into the following five categories of streams:

  1. Skilled workers
  2. Semi-skilled workers
  3. Investors/business
  4. International student graduates and
  5. Family/community connections.
