There are many methods are follows by the car owners for lowering the suspension of car. The two most common method for lowering the suspension of your car by replacing the spring kit for the coil spring suspension as well as use the lower kits with the blocks for the leaf spring suspension.

By going through the below points you can easily understand the best methods for lowering both types of the suspension using the tools and the lowering kits.

Lowering the coil spring suspension

The coil spring suspensions are mostly used in the compact cars. The materials which are needed for lowering the coil spring suspension are hand tools, air compressor, struct spring compressor, jack stands, socket set, air impact gun, lowering springs, and tire chocks. The steps to do it:-

Step 1:

First, you need to raise the front portion of your car and balance it on a jack stand. To prevent the car from rolling, you can set the parking brakes and place the tire chocks or the wood blocks at the rear wheels.

Step 2:

Once you raise the car, use the impact guns and the socket to remove the lug nuts. After removing the lug nuts you can easily remove the wheels.

Step 3:

By removing the bolts, you can easily remove the front strut assembly of your car. You can remove the blots by using the wrenches or a ratchet and the appropriate sockets. Once you have removed the strut assembly of your car, take the strut spring compressor. For removing all the tension between the spring and the upper strut mount compress the spring.

Step 4:

After the coil spring is compressed, then turn on the compressed air. Take the air impact gun and the socket to remove the top nuts which are used to secure the strut mount on the strut assembly. Once the top of the nut is removed, pull off the upper strut mounts and from the strut assembly remove the compressed coil spring.

Step 5:

On the strut, perch sit the lower the springs in a very specific manner and ensure that you seat the springs perfectly while installing it onto the strut assembly.

Step 6:

Above the new coil spring, you need to reinstall the upper strut mount into the spring assembly. Depending on the lower of the new coil spring, you need to compress the springs again before you reinstall the nuts. Until you reinstall the nut simply compress the springs, then turn the threads and tighten it with the air impact gun.

Step 7:

Once you reassembled the strut assembly of your car by lowering the new springs, put the strut assembly back onto your car in the reverse order. To support the strut first you need to put one bottom bolt, then install the rest of the hardware.

Step 8:

Once the strut of your car has been reinstalled, then reinstall the wheels and torque to lug nuts down. After replacing the front springs, replace the rear coil springs using the same procedures.

Lowering the leaf spring suspension

Generally, the older cars have leaf spring suspensions instead of the coil spring suspension. These suspensions use the long metal leaf springs to secure the axle through the U bolts. If you want to lower the leaf spring suspension of your car then you need the set of hand tools, jack stands, lowering block kit, and wood blocks. Here are the steps to lower the suspension:-

Step 1:

First, you can raise the car by putting a jack stand under the frame. You can additionally put the wooden blocks any opposite side under the car to prevent the car from rolling.

Step 2:

Once you raised the car with a jack stand, locate the two U bolts on the suspension leaf springs. These bolts generally have threads on the ends which are wrapped around the axle and bolt up to the underside of the leaf springs. Using the ratchet and socket remove the U bolts individually.

Step 3:

When the bolts are removed, you can take a jack and place it underneath the axle to raise it. You can raise the axle until there is enough space for lowering the block to fit between the leaf springs and axle.

Step 4:

Once you install the lowering block, then take the new extended U blots in the lowering kit and install them over the axle. Check everything again, then install the nuts on the U joints and torque them down into place.

Step 5:

At the end of the above step, one side of your car has been lowered. Then put back the tire on that place, lower the car and then remove the jack stand. Repeat the same process to lower the opposite side and repeat it for the rear suspension.

Conclusion

For lowering the suspension of your car requires the special tools to operate. If you feel very uncomfortable for doing such task, then hire a professional technician to carry out for you. If you find something wrong with the suspension, then inspect the suspension and replace the suspension spring if necessary.
