Caregivers Education is one of the most important things that should be taught in any professional nursing program. Because caregivers are not paid to do physical jobs; it is up to the facility to supply the necessary resources for a caregiver to be an effective caregiver. There is over 500 Caregivers Education Programs in Louisiana right now that is providing the training, resources and skills needed to become an effective and responsible caregiver. These programs are run by the non-profit Louisiana Caregivers Credit Union. In addition, the state of Louisiana has a Caregivers Education Board and the caregiver organizations are very involved in this organization and How to Start a home care business in Louisiana.

Caregivers Education is about being a good listener, an effective communicator, being able to empathize with your patients and understanding them on a deep level, being able to make friends with all of the people in your care, developing effective relationships with your family and the patient's family and becoming a trustworthy member of your community. There are many programs at the VECU that have been helping caregivers complete their Caregivers Education. Most of the time a CNA will complete their Caregivers Education before entering the program. Some programs will even provide a CNA certification upon completion. Caregivers Education can be completed at a career or community college, through a school or through a home care agency.

The training is broken down into three areas: First, Practical Life Skills. This area focuses on helping the caregiver to assess his or her situation and then to develop a plan of action for their daily activities. The plan is dependent on the individual needs of the caregiver. It should include things like documenting vital signs, performing CPR, taking vital signs of the patient, and more.

Second, Theory Based Knowledge. This area of the Caregivers Education curriculum train's caregivers to be able to communicate with their patients and other caregivers as well as the patients themselves. This includes understanding the physical assessment of a patient, understanding the medical history of the patient, how to create a nursing care plan, and more. The theory based part of the coursework is important because it teaches caregivers how to work effectively with patients. It also helps them understand the theory that is related to their practice. This area of the program also gives students a look at how to deal with emotional stress as well as how to encourage their patients to cooperate with their caregivers.

The third area is Hands-On Training. This part of the Caregivers Education class focuses on teaching caregivers' skills for life-style changes. Some of these skills include using aids such as canes, crutches, walking canes, and other equipment. It also has training that teaches caregivers how to get their patients up from the floor or from bed when they cannot walk. This training is important as many people who are bed ridden may not have complete range of motion.

Caregivers Education is a very important part of every nurse aide training. It introduces the student to the nursing basics and health care training needed for the career of a nurse aide. Caregivers Education also trains the student on how to manage their time well so they are not overwhelmed. Most importantly the training allows caregivers to feel confident in their abilities as they take on this amazing responsibility. It is always important to train your staff so they know how to handle certain situations so everyone has a safe and fun place to go when someone needs help.
