It retains the old Countryman charm with subtle visual enhancements like the revised bumper on both the ends giving it a very sporty look. The hexagon grill is bigger which emphasizes the black finish of the grill. The LED headlights and the union jack tail light are also part of the standard equipment.

A new feature is added which is bad weather light which has replaced the old fog light. A new set of alloy wheels complete the look, 17 inches for Cooper S and 18 inches for the JCW inspired.

At a glance, everything looks enhanced and is surely more functional. The new MINI Countryman has a digital driver’s display, and the infotainment unit is surrounded by laser-engraved LED rings makes it even more lively. Also, the front seat is electrically adjustable. and sports leather steering wheel is now standard.

Powering both the variants is the same 2.0-litre TwinPower turbo-petrol engine that puts out 192 PS of maximum power, along with 280 Nm of peak torque. A 7-speed DCT is offered as standard, while the JCW Inspired gets the Steptronic Sport gearbox with a tweaked software for quicker shifts, and to enable launch control.

The Mini Countryman has quick steering and above-average handling with plenty of grips. It is moderately comfortable and has excellent protection from wind and engine noises.

Safety is given the utmost importance. Hence there is a new feature added to the facelift, the Lane departure warning which is designed to help the driver keep the car in the lane. If the system detects the car staying out of its lane it will notify the driver.

Although it can get pricey – especially after all the optional features – the Mini Countryman is a car that can even be used as a hatchback. It does not quite nail the crossover game but does enough to endear itself to many. It has many impressive features, and its safety numbers are okay.
