Today one of the most common types of cancer found in both men and women is lung cancer. Understanding its effects and how it is caused is very important because it can save our life and others also. While cancer has become very common around the world, it is very important for us to know its different types and its causes. So, let us look at lung cancer and understand what causes it. Our sole involvement in this process is to assist our body. Therefore, let us look at some of the ways we can assist our body so that we can prevent ourselves from any type of cancer.
Reasons For Lung Cancer
Lung cancer affects the lung tissues and has the possibility to spread to various other organs. The significant rise in lung cancer patients is due to the large number of smoking population. Smoking being the primary reason for this type of cancer, is a popular habit around the world. Many people are addicted to cigarettes and couldn’t stop the habit. But they haven’t realised the effects of that habit. Smoking not only affects their own bodies, but also those who are surrounding them. Passive smoking is a phenomenon where a person is not directly smoking but is inhaling another person’s smoke. According to centre for lung cancer Newport beach, passive smokers have significantly increased over the years and they are also affected by such cancers. If children are born with parents who have the habit of smoking, then they are also likely to develop lung problems at some point in their life.
Apart from smoking, people who are exposed to a lot of different chemicals in the workplace, such as those found in pesticides and insecticides, are also at a greater risk for developing this disease. But, the most common and potent chemical that increases a person's risk for developing lung cancers are carbon monoxide and nitrogen dioxide. These two substances are present in industrial waste materials and are also produced by vehicles and even some home heating systems. Because improper eating habits accumulate lot of toxins in our body which gets converted into cancer causing cells.
Asbestos is one other chemical compound that you need to avoid. Asbestos fibre material can enter your lungs from things like ceiling tiles and insulation, as well as old flooring and carpeting. This exposure can be cumulative, meaning that over time, the amount of asbestos that is breathed in will cause a build-up of this dangerous substance in the tissues of the lungs. Eventually this causes lung cancers. Many countries have prohibited the use of asbestos for constructions.
Genetic changes are also found to be causing cancers. Changes in the genes that give a person the capacity to tolerate various chemicals can cause lung cells to become cancerous. Some of these gene changes are found at the same time that exposure to certain chemicals is happening, increasing the possibility of developing a disease after exposure. These are some of the reasons for lung cancer and we must protect us from these factors to avoid the disease.
