Teenage Bedroom Ideas That Never Stop Growing
Posted: Oct 16, 2014
Do you need teenager bedroom ideas? There are quite a few, impressive ideas on the Internet and in many interior design magazines, all you need is a little time to scour for them.
The best teenage rooms out there are the ones that can easily transform as the kids start to grow up. This space should reflect his ever-growing and changing needs. This space must also have ample floor space and storage areas. Of course, if you want to be referred to as the cool Mom or Dad, then the room that you set up for your teenager should be trendy, funky and stylish.
Whether you are designing for a teenage boy or a girl, you must know which colors are suitable and the room must exude a level of vibrancy that is a notch or so higher than the rest of the rooms in your home.
Use a Central Theme
Don’t just go for the common pink color if you are designing for a teenage girl. Neither should you automatically opt for blues or blacks just because you are setting up a room for your teenage boy.
Remember that your choice of color will depend greatly on the theme that you picked (or what your teenager has chosen). Your theme can be inspired by daily happenings or it could feature some unique urban elements such as industrial details, sports or college posters, even some decorating items. You can also set up a room that has a traditional vibe, just make sure to ask your teenager’s opinion also.
Color Choice - The Most Important Aspect
Deciding on the colors that will be perfect for a teenager’s room can be a bit challenging. This room is different from all the other rooms in your home because your teenager will have strong feelings about it. This is going to be his or her personal space so you have to proceed with caution.
You have to understand how a typical teenager thinks. Most of them want room colors that are an extension of their mood, style, personality or passion. Unlike adults, teenagers are not afraid of bright colors. So go ahead and use bright yellow or orange if needs be, especially when your teenage boy specifically requests for it.
Generally, teenagers are not that crazy about white. To them, this looks antiseptic so it is better that you experiment with colors than to stick to what’s safe.
You also need to ask about their prized possessions or collections because you can highlight the design around these. Never think that you will be able to impress you teen with high-end or expensive looks. Most young people would rather embrace a free-spirited theme.
When you are dressing up a teenage girl’s room, be sure to have some lavender and pink paints nearby. These colors go well with white furniture, sequined accents and some colorful bedding. Shabby chic is a popular theme among teenage girls. Use a floral rug as an accent piece or a focal point.
Deep reds and subdued golds can be used for more mature teens.
For teen boys, you can never go wrong with the minimalist approach. Boys aren’t as neat as teenage girls but this doesn’t mean that the room should be cluttered. Remove any sign of clutter as you redesign your son’s room.
Add some black furniture or accessories if you are designing for a more mature teenage boy. Ask if he would prefer a stark white wall and some colorful furnishings. If he is the subdued type, then you are safest with furniture and accessories in royal blue, grass green or red. Sports themes are also quite popular among teenage boys, just ask what sports team he is most enamored with.
Take time to discuss your kid’s preference because he is the best one that can give you the teenage bedroom ideas that you would need for the project. Are you someone that appreciates old-styled homes and furniture? Are you fascinated by the grace and timeless beauty of the pieces that have been made many years ago?
