Disability can be mental health or physical health and both can prove to be challenging for the individuals and their dear ones. We give great importance to protect our physical ailments but yet mostly fails to prioritise mental health along with physical wellbeing. To address this, NDIS has revised their scheme to add a new support Called Psycho-Social Recovery Coach. In order to get funding under Mental Health Recovery coaching, you should be primarily diagnosed with psychosocial disability. As of now, NDIS doesn’t provide funding for participants who have psycho-social disabilities as their secondary diagnosis. Through this, you can avail the support of a recovery coach who can assist you with recovering, training and adapting to daily challenges and also to help you achieve your goals.

It is also possible for you to link your clinical mental health treatment with the coach and work in partnership. As part of this support, the recovery coach is responsible for

1. Helping you with your recovery plans 2. Supporting mental health capacity building 3 Monitoring the mental health progress

4. Support Co-ordination services 5 Reporting back to the NDIA about your progress and fund utilization

As per the NDIA guidelines, there is no specific number of hours that can be funded and the individual can decide it based on their recovery plans.

The importance to choose a qualified and professional recovery coach cannot be emphasised enough. A recovery coach shouldn’t be someone who overrides your life plans or predominates your decisions.
