The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) has been the principal mechanism for Canada to welcome talent from all around the world since 1967.

The FSWP was the first programme in the world to objectively examine immigration candidates. The FSWP is now one of Canada's three skilled worker programmes controlled through the Express Entry system.

The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) was established in 1967 to recruit immigrants from around the world. Instead, it chose to evaluate all candidates using the same objective criteria: based on each candidates age, work experience, language, adaptability, occupation and education.

HOW IMMIGRATION PROGRAM GOES HAND IN HAND WITH FSWP?

Three skilled worker programmes in Canada, including the FSWP, employ the Express Entry application management system. To begin, check to determine if you meet the FSWP's eligibility requirements. Then you fill out an Express Entry application. A Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score will be assigned to you based on your age, education, language skills, and work experience. The Canadian government performs Express Entry lotteries every two weeks, asking the individuals with the highest CRS scores to apply for permanent residence in Canada. You can anticipate getting your permanent residency status and moving to Canada within six months of submitting your completed application.

STEP BY STEP PROCESS FOR CANADA IMMIGRATION

1. See if you meet the FSWP's eligibility requirements.
2. If you meet the requirements, you will be required to take a government-approved English and/or French language test. An Educational Credential Assessment is also required.
3. Fill up your Express Entry profile on the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada website (IRCC).
4. Check to see if you've received an invitation to apply for permanent residency (ITA). Every two weeks, the IRCC runs an Express Entry draw.
5. You should submit your completed permanent residence application to IRCC if you receive an ITA. The application will be processed by the IRCC in six months. After that, you can relocate to Canada.

WHAT ARE THE ELIGIBLITY CRITERIA FOR CANADA EXPRESS ENTRY VIA FEDERAL SKILLED WORKER PROGRAM?

Foreign nationals can start the immigration process under the Federal Skilled Worker Program by assessing if they fit the program's minimum qualifications. The following are the minimum requirements:

1. One year of continuous full-time or equivalent paid work experience in a skilled occupation classified as skill level 0, A, or B by the National Occupational Classification (NOC) in the previous ten years
2. Validated language ability in English or French equivalent to the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 in all abilities (reading, writing, listening, and speaking)
3. A Canadian or foreign educational credential (certificate, diploma, or degree)
4. An Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report.

The IRCC uses a unique scoring system to determine candidates' eligibility for the Federal Skilled Worker Program. Only the top-ranked individuals in the Express Entry pool, however, are invited to apply for permanent residence in Canada.

The CRS is used to rank candidate profiles in the Express Entry pool, which also includes Federal Skilled Trades and Canadian Experience Class candidates.
