A goan fish curry is a beautiful creamy, coconut based Indian dish that is sure to impress everyone who tries it. Whether it be for a special occasion, or you are simply wanting to experiment with something different, this is a great dish to choose from. Now if you look at this recipe, it may seem overwhelming at the start. You need several different herbs and spices for both the curry paste and sauce, and there are plenty of steps involved to get from start to finish. This said, do not stress! This is where we come in and provide everything you need to cook this tasty dish easily and as simple as possible. Here is a run-through of the recipe for the goan fish curry.

Getting Prepared

Before starting, ensure you have everything needed. Have oil, pan and other ingredients required. These will be: three onions, 1kg fish, 2 lemons, 1 bulb of garlic and ginger, coconut milk and rice.

To make life even easier, have the onions sliced, fish cut into small strips, lemon cut into wedges, the other lemon juiced and have garlic peeled and diced, ginger grated.

Start from Scratch

Before we start, have your pan pre-heated and oil ready. Once hot, place the onions in, browning them. In the fish goan curry kit, you will have four bags, use Bag 1 to combine with the onions. Brown the onions with the herbs and spices from Bag 1.

Creating the Rest!

Now in a fish goan curry, there are probably twenty or so different ingredients. Our kit makes life a whole lot easier, as we have labelled each bag with its contents, pre-measured everything and now are giving you the exact method to create it! Usually, you would have to source and purchase all the separate herbs and spices (some of which are extremely hard to find), however we have done all the leg work.

Combine Bag 2 and Bag 4, stirring well, then add in Bag 3 with the previously prepared garlic and ginger. Stir these thoroughly to produce a paste like substance. This is the staple of this delicious dish! Now do not forget, the onions and herbs are creating a divine aroma in the background, it is nearly time to bring it all together!

Adding the Paste

Now that you have created the curry paste, it is time to add this to the sizzling pan of onions. Pour this in, cooking for a few minutes. You will notice a different aroma in the kitchen, and the pan will take on some new colours.

Time for the fish!

Now, you can use basically any fish for this dish. The best way to choose is to pick the fish you like most. Personally, a firm fleshed white fish is usually best for curries, so cod, Basa, barramundi or snapper are all great choices for this curry. If you do not like fish, do not stress, add chicken instead! Now, chuck in the fish or chicken, and cook until browned. Now that this has occurred, you are nearly done. Chuck in the coconut milk, lemon juice and let it simmer for at least five minutes to take on the abundance of flavour.

Now for the best part!

We all know the best part of cooking is eating it! This dish is best served hot on a bed of basmati rice. Enjoy!
