Thyroid Test
The thyroid is a gland that produces two major hormones known as triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4). Hypothyroidism is a condition that relates to less production of these hormones. Hyperthyroidism occurs when too many hormones are produced in the thyroid.
Symptoms such as weight gain, depression, and lack of energy are caused due to Hypothyroidism. Weight loss, tremors, high levels of anxiety, and a sense of being on a high are the symptoms of Hyperthyroidism.
Both the conditions in the thyroid gland can be determined by the implementation of Thyroid Tests. The proper balance of thyroid hormone helps the body use energy, stay warm, and keeps the brain, muscles, heart, and other organs working as they should, by pumping it into the blood.
We at Redheal in Hyderabad perform thyroid function tests. These are a series of blood tests used to determine the functioning of the thyroid gland. Our team helps with the T3, T4, and TSH tests related to the thyroid. The results will measure the levels of three main thyroid hormones.

Types of Thyroid Tests
These are majorly categorized into 3 types of tests:
- Triiodothyronine (T3)
The levels of hormone triiodothyronine are examined with the T3 test. This test is also performed when T4 tests and TSH tests suggest hyperthyroidism. An overactive thyroid gland is also a major cause that leads to the recommendation of the T3 test.
T3 with 100–200 nanograms of hormone per deciliter of blood (ng/dL) is known to be the normal range. Abnormally high levels most commonly indicate a condition called Grave’s disease which is an autoimmune disorder associated with hyperthyroidism.
- Thyroxine (T4)
In most cases, the T4 test and the TSH test are together suggested to be taken as the most common thyroid function tests. Hyperthyroidism is a condition that occurs due to a high level of T4 that indicates an overactive thyroid.
T4 in your body is prone to protein and thus the test is recommended. Free T4 may be present in small portions which may not bind to the protein. This free T4 is the form that is readily available for your body to use and is tested along with the T4 test sometimes.
- Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (Tsh)
The Tsh test generally determines the level of thyroid-stimulating hormone in your blood. The normal test range varies between 0.4 and 4.0 milli-international units of hormone per liter of blood (mIU/L) for Tsh.
The Tsh reading above 2.0 mIU/L indicates the body is moving towards the condition of hypothyroidism. The doctor recommends getting thyroid function tests each year to track the status of thyroid hormone levels.
Important Note:
Fasting is required for the Full Body Checkup, for at least 10 - 12 hours before the sample collection. However, those willing to take the tests can consume water.
