An FSSAI Registration is a basic license that is mandatory for every food business operator who is involved in small-scale food businesses.

Every food business operator who manufactures, processes, stores, distributes, or sells food must get an FSSAI Registration or License.

FSSAI Registration differs from FSSAI License in that FBOs should get the appropriate registration or licence based on the size and nature of their business.

It's a 14-digit registration or licencing number that appears on every food package. The 14-digit registration number contains information on the assembling state and the producer's licence. The purpose of this registration procedure is to make the FBO more accountable for maintaining the quality of the food goods.

Types of FSSAI LicenceBasic, State & Central:-FSSAI Basic Licence

If an FBO operates a food business with an annual revenue of less than Rs.12 lakhs, he must register with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The application charge is Rs.100 for a one-year licence, Rs.100 for yearly renewal, and 10% of the fee for duplicate licence issuance. This registration covers small restaurants, dhabas, banquet halls with catering arrangements, hawkers, and petty shops.

FSSAI State License

An FSSAI State License is necessary to operate a food business with an annual turnover of more than Rs.12 lakhs but less than Rs.20 crore. If a manufacturer's annual production is less than 1 metric tonne, the annual charge for a state FSSAI licence is Rs.3000 for one year, and Rs.5000 if it exceeds one metric tonne. For hotels with up to four stars, the charge is Rs.5000 for a year, and Rs.2000 for food service providers such as restaurants, clubs, school canteens, caterers, and so on. Food enterprises that fall under the State License category include dairy units with refrigeration, vegetable oil processing units, slaughter houses, meat processing units, and relabelers and repackers.

FSSAI Central License

When a food business's annual revenue exceeds Rs.20 crore, the business must obtain a central FSSAI licence in order to continue operating. For a new central licence, the charge is Rs.7500 per year, Rs.7500 for yearly renewal, and 10% of the fee for duplicate licence issuance.

Documents Required for the FSSAI License?

• List of food categories

• Water testing report from ISI approved facility

How to get the FSSAI License for your Restaurant?

Once you have these documents in place, you can apply for the license. The application process is rather simple:

• Log in to the FSSAI website, complete the sign-up process by creating a username for the registration.

• Then fill up the online application with all the required documents.

• Submit the printout of the filled-up online application form to the Regional/State Authority with all the supportive documents within 15 days from the date of making the online submission, to ensure that your application is considered.
