Being a fireman is much more than just excitement. It is a job of honour and commands the highest level of respect from our society, right along with our armed forces. Firemen risk their lives and safety to ensure that civilians are safely brought out of harm’s way in case disaster strikes. And to do so, they use specially designed firemen gear to execute their plans and ensure their own safety and productivity along the way. This gear is the reason why our heroes manage to pull off extraordinary feats and survive the toughest of situations with confidence and ease.

The equipment that fire fighters use to control and put an end to fire accidents includes a wide range of gear. There are the huge fire trucks that provide them and their gear with mobility and safe transportation. There are the elongated equipment like hoses and ladders that they use to manage places that are out of reach. Let’s take a moment and look at the range of firemen gear available at the disposal of these professionals and how these individual instruments help them in mastering raging fires.

  • First and most importantly, the fire truck deserves a special mention. This machine performs two extremely important functions for the firemen – transport and their gear to the scene of the crime and pump water to help them get the fire under control. Its basic function is to pump water using an engine via the water contained in the vehicle or the fire hydrant. You can generally expect them to provide seating to a minimum of five firemen and come equipped with two way radios, emergency lights and sirens.
  • The next important firemen gear is the ladder that these professionals use to reach roofs and higher levels of a building under fire. Mostly the fire trucks have these extendable ladders attached to them, providing a stable and safe base for the firemen to climb on.
  • The halligan bar is another important piece of firefighting gear. It is a multipurpose tool that can be used for all kinds of purposes like twisting, punching, striking even prying. You can find a tapered pick, a blade and even a claw attached to it which the firemen use to force open locked doors.
  • Fire hoses are simply pipes that are attached to fire hydrants which help the professionals in pumping water to far off places at any accident site. This tool helps them to keep a safe distance while trying to bring the blaze under control.
  • Pike poles are another important
firefighter gear that is extensively used in the field. The tool helps firemen in searching for fires behind sheetrock in walls and ceilings. It is usually made out of fibreglass and has metal hooks on its end.

Firemen gear should necessarily be manufactured from the top available materials and should be passed through a host of stringent quality tests to ensure that these professionals have nothing but the very best tools at their disposal to get the job done.
