The idea of cloud migration is quite happening across all organizations. The IT industry has adopted its benefits to bring more agility and improvement in its performance. Since the cloud options are many, it becomes confusing to understand which options serve the purpose of your organization to its best.

Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud are the three significant cloud services. Among the three, the following discussion follows on Azure Cloud Migration Services and the step-by-step migration strategies involved in it.

Steps in Azure Cloud Migration Strategy:

Step 1: Assessment - This is the first strategy that includes three parts- discover, map, and evaluate. The migration assessment tool enables the compilation of information and performance of the business applications. Mapping involves determining the servers that are dependent on on-premise applications to fetch ideas about the applications. Evaluation is about using Azure recommendations and drawing out migration strategies to assess the cost factor. Remember that cloud strategy is aimed at providing security to business data. Whether it is Azure or Google Cloud, or AWS cloud security, the final performance depends upon how well your data are safe.

Step 2: Migration - This is the second strategy that is divided into four parts- rehost, rearchitect, refactor, and rebuild. Rehost means shifting applications to the Azure network without any orchestration. There is no need for additional code changes. Rearchitect means making changes to the various applications’ codebase. When certain changes are done to the application without any changes to the code, it is called Refactor. Rebuilding includes the total rebuilding of applications with the aid of cloud-native applications. This is the service offered by Azure PaaS.

Step 3: Optimization - This includes a three-step process- Analyse, Save, Reinvest. Azure Cost Management helps to analyze cloud spending efficiency with more transparency and accuracy. This step allows you to make an investment plan better. Using Azure Reserved Virtual Machine and Azure Hybrid Benefit, it is easier to deal effectively with the migrated environment. Azure services allow you to reinvest by modifying, securing, and then making all the necessary advancements to the existing and migrated workloads. The final idea is to turn all your data and updates into savings.

Step 4: Secure and Manage - This step is about safeguarding your applications and data with Azure’s Data Protection, Secure, and Monitoring options. Azure security renders full control and visibility over cloud applications’ security. It enables to increase the recovery rate and threat detection possibility. It is important to ensure backing up apps which are done by Azure services. The objective is to avoid additional costs and any kind of business disruption to ensure compliance. Last but not the least, Azure monitoring service helps to track the health and situation of your cloud apps, data, and infrastructure. Overall, this helps to give the right analytics and insights.

With the four-step approach, Azure helps to make precise planning for cloud migration. Each step is dependent on the previous step to ensure that every aspect of the cloud strategy is performed meticulously without any room for mistake.
