One of the most misunderstood kitchen accessories in the world is the cutting board. One of the reasons it is so poorly understood is because of its misleading properties. It is a kitchen accessory that has many uses, including the most common use, cutting, but there are sure rules that are involved, as well as the most intriguing rules.

Types of surfaces. For years, people have debated which is safer, wood or plastic, and each has its pros and cons. Wood is porous and has been known to heal on its own, but on the other hand, plastic is more decorative and dishwasher safe. It is up to the cook to decide which one is safest for their home to use daily.

How many are too many? With all the items, cutting boards tend to grow and multiply within the home. The kitchen accessory makes a wonderful gift for a new partner, as well as a great housewarming gift. On the subject of how many to use, one person can have one cutting board to prepare meat, fish, and poultry, another for vegetables and fruits, while three can be used to cut bread or use as a cheeseboard. Beyond that amount, it is time to reduce it to three.

Known fact: the Japanese respect all kitchen accessories. In 2000, Bobby Flay accepted an invitation to the Iron Chef cooking show. Towards the end of the show, while cooking against chef Masaharu Morimoto, Bobby threw a cutting board on the kitchen stadium floor and stood on the cooking surface to show that he had finished cooking. Since this was being shown in front of a live Japanese studio audience, there was outrage throughout the kitchen stadium. Afterward, Bobby apologized, and today the two are best friends, and Morimoto owns restaurants in the United States and cooks as an American Iron Chef show.
