Bike lights are crucial accessories for a bike to perform well on the road. Bicycles have to be seen at night as well as in bad weather conditions and also to help other bikers follow you. They add to the fun of cycling, whether one is a beginner or an experienced cyclist. Bike lights are lights attached to bikes whose main function above all else is to enhance the visibility of the bike and its rider in unfavorable circumstances under low light conditions.

The most common situation where bike lights become essential is night riding. The number of accidents involving a bicycle in the road falls every year has risen dramatically over the past decade. People who ride at night while traveling or touring have greater chances of losing their lives due to lack of bicycle breaks and visibility on the road.

Most of these accidents occur because of the neglect to apply bike lights while driving at night. Bikers who do not see others driving on the road behind them often do not illuminate themselves or even collide with other vehicles. Such people are liable to get into an accident and as such the importance of rear bike lights cannot be over emphasized. The front and back bike lights are of equal importance and one should apply both equally while driving at night.

There are many reasons why both the front and the back bike lights should be synchronized while traveling on the road. One of the biggest benefits of using both front and back bike lights is that they help improve visibility on the road at night. If you can see well enough to notice a car ahead, you can make out what they are doing in time and avoid an accident. This applies particularly if there are no other vehicles present in the scene. At times, the front lights alone can be sufficient enough to help you notice other vehicles.

Nighttime running lights are another safety measure adopted by many cyclists. The objective behind having a steady and constant flow of white light is to make it impossible for a motorist to overtake you when the road conditions allow for it. For many drivers, it's difficult to judge distances on the road during the night and this makes it very dangerous. As such, some driver safety systems and some advanced driver training courses also include a section that covers the proper usage of bike lights while cycling at night.

During the day, many drivers like to use the headlight for illumination purposes. However, the constant exposure to the concentrated beams can cause the eyes to burn especially if they're used for long durations. A better option would be to use bike lights with a brighter illumination, such as LED. In addition to saving money, the bright LED lights last up to 10 times longer than halogen lights. While they may be brighter, their construction makes them more compact and thus makes it easier to mount.

Some modern bike lights also include rechargeable batteries. Using these recharged batteries while traveling during nighttime can eliminate the need to buy new rechargeable batteries whenever they run out. Many bike models come with built-in lithium-ion rechargeable batteries, while others are compatible with most common rechargeable batteries available in the market. It's also possible to find devices that have integrated lithium-polymer cells that can support even high-priced rechargeable batteries.

Other popular features include bike lights with built-in tail lamps and dynamo systems. Tail lamps can make for much easier vision at night while riding, especially when the front tire is dimly lit. D Dynamo systems on the other hand are designed to provide additional illumination for riders who don't want the bike headlights to be so bright. Headlights on the other hand, have their own place in many bike accessories. Overall, it's up to the rider to choose the bike lights that best suits his needs.
