The country ranks sixth in terms of the arrival of international patients for health treatment every year. The medical tourism sector in the country is increasing by as much as 30 percent year on year. This phenomenal growth is credited to a sound health infrastructure that delivers quality treatment with successful outcomes

The mainstay of consistency in tourism growth is credited to the availability of expert and experienced doctors and surgeons that conduct a vast array of disease treatments and surgeries. The support base for the doctors and surgeons are the accredited hospitals besides smaller setups that are by all means quality driven.

The treatment and surgery centers also include clinic which though appears to be small centers are not necessary as such. Specialized clinics in the medical niche are well equipped and manned by trained and experienced doctors and surgeons. These are focused on the niche, and the care and treatment have been exemplary enough to propel them into National and international fame.

The country is home to more than seventy thousand hospitals dealing in a vast array of surgical interventions, procedures, and palliatives. The number includes both public and private hospitals of which more than forty thousand are in the private domain and the figure includes specialized clinics in various niches. The countries health institutions comprise more than 2 million beds now with the increase propelled by the pandemic. The Calicut Medical College at Kozhikode in Kerela is the biggest hospital in India with over three thousand beds. The institution is also involved in teaching for a medical degree with an intake of two hundred fifty students every year.

Ahmedabad Civil Hospital with 2800 beds is ranked amongst the ten biggest hospitals in the World. Though much criticized for handling the pandemic, it has upgraded itself with a major investment package.

Though the public institutions are on par with private hospitals in the country, international patients prefer to get treated in private health care institutions due to personalized service and upgraded infrastructure manned by expert surgeons, doctors, and allied staff.

The medical tourism hospitals and clinics are geared up for treating international patients from all over the World. These are the best-managed centers for surgery and treatments and many are equipped with machines or instruments using the latest technological inputs associated with robotics, AI, CAD, and Imagery to name a few.

A large number of hospitals are NABH accredited which is a government rating organization under the Quality Control Council of India. The acronym stands for National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Health Care Providers. There are currently 500 hospitals all over the country that are accredited by NABH.

Some health care establishments are JCI accredited. JCI stands for Joint Commission International, and it is an American Organization that has accredited more than fifty hospitals in India. The health care institutions in the country are reputed and provide the best care and options for surgeries and procedures. Being a large country with a vast infrastructure the country is able to deliver low-cost treatments with successful outcomes.

The best medical tourism hospitals in India are not only the big chains as assumed. Even individual clinics and small hospitals have made a name for themselves. Some of these are popular overseas and attract lot many international patients. Many are promoted by medical tourism facilitators based in major towns. The facilitators or agents provide invaluable services for overseas patients who are clueless about the infrastructure in the country.

The agents organize travel and tourism in India as most of the patients visit sightseeing destinations before or after the scheduled operation or procedure in the hospital. The country is home to Yoga and TM or transcendental meditation which are ideal for alternative healing. It is the origin of Ayurvedic medicine which is an indigenous ancient healing science.
