Posted: Oct 01, 2021
If you want to accomplish your goals, discipline plays an important role. You can even say discipline is the bridge between your goals and the accomplishment of those goals. It is also important for a healthy social life. Discipline helps to remove hindrances that stand in the way of growth and success. We can’t deny the importance of discipline in schools too. Schools play important role in shaping the behavior of children and in character building.
Every school has some discipline policies and codes of conduct. These policies consist of certain implicit rules, acceptable behaviors, and conduct to regulate the behavior of students. These policies and rules are necessary to make children efficient individuals and good citizens. For example, to ensure that students reach their pickup point on time, specific rules can be set. Moreover, a school vehicle tracking system can also be installed to track school buses to ensure students are following the schedules.
Moreover, discipline policies also play an important role to make the teaching and learning process effective. These policies are also helpful to create an ideal classroom environment.
Today, we will discuss ways to implement these student discipline policies in school.
Plan and OrganizeStudents should be aware of the rules and policies. To implement these policies successfully, it is important to ensure there is a rhythm or a set routine in the school and specifically in the classroom. This way, students will know what is expected from them in the classroom. Teachers also need to have pre-planned lessons to avoid inconvenience.
Manage Issues As Early As PossibleIt is also important for the implementation of school discipline policies to handle any problems that spring up right there and then. Because once the issues become worse, it would be difficult to handle. Teachers should also be trained to handle every little issue that occurs in the classroom as soon as possible. If you handle problems tactfully, right there, students also get a sense that they are valued and listened to.
Establish Proper Code of ConductSchools should also have a proper code of conduct to keep the students in check. Moreover, proper rules and regulations should be followed. The one important consideration here is the right balance. You don’t need to be too lenient that students don’t take any rule seriously. On the contrary, too much strictness will also make students rebellious. A controlled freedom method is more appropriate for the implementation of school discipline policies.
Communicate the PoliciesOnce you have a discipline policy established for your school, you need to communicate the policies and procedures to students and teachers. So, they know what is expected from them and they can do it accordingly. Schools can conduct orientation classes for students and teachers and need to explain rules and regulations, and how they are expected to behave in school and classroom.
Everyone Must PracticeIt is important to practice what you preach. Not only students but teachers and other staff should also follow the code of conduct. Maintaining discipline in school can be tricky because students are vulnerable and learning what is right and what is wrong. So, this is the time to teach them what is right. Implement the discipline policy and everyone must follow it.
Establish Rapport With StudentsWhen teachers create a good rapport with students, they will be more disciplined. So, you need to build rapport and with mutual respect, you will bring harmony and disciple in your classroom and school. Reward good behaviors to encourage students. It will make them more disciplined and better students. As a teacher, you need to have a positive and optimistic attitude and it will also help to build rapport and discipline in school.
