What is Previcox?

Our pets are our dearest friends most of the time. In the beginning of them at our place, you will probably find them inclined a lot towards being around you and wagging their tail. You will find them being highly energetic. Their energy usually stays alike for the most part of their lives unless they are sick. Here’s a condition where they are suddenly tired and not moving – unless you force them to. This is a condition that can be cured by Previcox. The drug helps loosen up arthritis within the dog’s joint.

How does Previcox work?

It works to lessen the inflammation mostly on the joints of the dog. It also helps loosen up the pain at the pain areas. The non-steroid drug is capable of doing this by inhibiting an enzyme called COX-2 in the areas of hurt (mostly joints). It is an inflammatory drug (NSAID) that has adverse effects on the dog if given without the vet’s consultation. The dosage should be strictly followed without failing more than 2 doses.

Equioxx vs. Previcox

This one’s an interesting difference when it comes to the origin and the work of both the drugs. Both the drugs are manufactured by Merial. The two drugs are non-steroid (NSAID) drugs that work to ease out the inflammation and pain in joints of animals. The major difference and the only difference is with the animal- Previcox for dogs while Equioxx is for horses. Many people get confused between the two because of the manufacturer and the kind of impact it has – this needs to be given special attention while buying/

Are there possible side effects that may occur in my dog during treatment with PREVICOX (firocoxib)?

Unlike humans, animals have severe side effects to most of the drugs that they consume. The secret lies in having properly monitored and advised drugs given to them. With Previcox for cats there are a set of side effects that come into the picture:

  1. Nausea
  2. Vomiting
  3. Diarrhoea
  4. Blood Stools
  5. Weight loss
  6. Allergic reaction

The side effects could go to a huge extent as well. The main cause is mostly not researching into the type of body your dog has and if the drug suits well to the same. Once the above reactions come into the picture, you must get the dog checked at the pet chemist online avoid any further permanent complications.

Benefits:

The most basic benefit of the drug is how fast it can act on the dog. With any sort of joint inflammation, the dog can sense relaxation in about a few hours. The drug can also be used for long term purposes if the dog has reached a certain old age – and requires treatment every now and then. Of course, goes without saying that the vet supplies should have approved the drug usage for a prolonged time.

The second basic advantage is that the inflammation in the joint of the dog can now even be reduced by these chewable tablets. Most of the pet prescriptions too suggest that owners are always concerned about the fact that the dog might not take the tablet in, even when mixed with food – they end up puking the whole of it. These tablets are now chewable.

What is the most important thing I should know about Previcox?

While the drug has wonderful effects on the dog by easing out the pain there is, there will be one thing that you should always look out for. The drug causes severe behavioural changes in the dog. When it is about behaviour, they can become way too aggressive for their breed; they can also be very soft against their normal behaviour – get it checked once a while through pet pharmacy.

What should I discuss with my veterinarian before giving Previcox to my pet?

There are very important things that should discuss with the vet before starting the course of Previcox for pets. Here are a couple of them:

  1. The weight control and monitoring of the dog while on the dosage
  2. What tests must be done to ensure no severe side effects are observed in the dog
  3. What should be the ideal diet once the behaviour changes onset

How should Previcox be given?

The most commonly used dosage would be the 2.27mg/lb of the body weight and is mostly used for the old-age dogs – you can consult the pet chemist. The timing is mostly once daily and two hours prior to the surgery that you might encounter for the joint inflammation.

The dosage of 57Mg should be ideal for a 10 pound dog. Since the effect immediately is on the weight of the dog, it is also important to see the dosage as per the weight of the dog.
