What Are The Purpose and Use of Drywall Anchors?
Posted: Oct 09, 2021
Drywall is an exterior wall covering that sits against the vertical wall studs and the large empty spaces in between the studs. It is secured to studs using nails to keep it in place.
Straight anchors made of plastic and caring anchors of threaded anchors are employed to hang pictures and other items from the wall directly above the cavity on the wall.
1. Wall Anchors Create a Firm Fitting
Since drywall typically is just half an inch thick, hanging objects on walls using screws can be difficult because it is composed of gypsum and can fall apart.
Instead of putting mirror screws with caps in the drywall directly above the wall studs, the hanging of the wall anchors provides an ideal surface to which the screw can be attached.
2. Straight Plastic Anchors
Straight anchors made of plastic are round in shape and can be purchased in various lengths. The anchor features a hollow centre into which the screw can be placed, and it is pushed by its walls upwards against the wall.
Draw a hole on the wall on which the anchor will be placed. The head of the TIMCO screws through the wall to mark the spot or employ a rotary tool with an accessory for drilling to create a precise hole that is the same as the required size of the anchor.
The drywall anchor screws should be inserted into the hole until its end sits level with the wall's surface. Screw it in the hole.
3. Winged Plastic Anchors
The plastic anchor with a winged design resembles the letter T with one of its ends angled to the outside. The hole is made in the wall using a screwdriver or rotary tool equipped with a multi-purpose cutting accessory.
Keep the winged ends of the stainless steel nails and push it through the hole. The side of the anchor is aligned with the wall. Install the screw into the anchor.
4. Threaded Drywall Anchors
The anchors are constructed of metal or plastic and feature a threaded shank. The hole does not need to be created first because these anchors are screwed through the wall.
Set the point of the threaded anchor on the wall surface. Attach the head of a screw to the opposite part of the anchor.
The mirror screws with caps should be pushed in and turned counterclockwise to fix the anchor to the wall. Continue until the anchor is level with the wall. Screw it into the hole that is in the centre of the anchor.
Benefits of Heavy Duty Drywall Anchors
Anchors for heavy-duty drywall can be utilised for projects you would not think of with the drywall. A few years ago, they were used for a few things, such as hanging pictures or light-duty shelves in the drywall.
In the past few years, heavy duty drywall anchors have become more durable and sturdy and are a reliable fastener that is safer and more durable. Here are a few benefits of using heavy-duty anchors for drywall.
- Strongest Type of Fastener for Drywall
Anchors for heavy-duty drywall screws are typically made of galvanised steel. This makes them much stronger than the standard anchors made of plastic, such as wood screws.
The design of the anchors permits them to expand completely beyond the surface of the drywall and securely secure to the wall between the surfaces of the anchor and the locking blade at the back portion. When compressed tightly, even the drywall can be very durable.
Thus, a high-end anchor for drywall is the strongest fastener you can get for this kind of wall surface.
- Self-Tapping Means No Pre-Drilling
Most heavy-duty anchors for drywall are self-tapping. It means you can install them on the wall in the exact spot you wish to install them.
Masonry fixings can make the installation quicker and allow you to avoid creating rips and tears on the drywall surface that needs to be fixed later.
Other types of fasteners or anchors for drywall usually require drilling or making holes in the wall before placing the anchor.
- Easy to Paint and Hide
Because 152mm Forgefix Concrete Frame Screw made of heavy-duty can be countersunk into the drywall and are then easily covered with putty or concealed by painting, if you've ever worked with an anchor made of plastic for your drywall, you are aware that concealing the eyesore inside the drywall is difficult to do at most.
So, using high-end anchors for drywall will make your installation more durable and more durable and attractive and professional in appearance.
- Perfect for Shelving Brackets
If you're using L-brackets or any other type of angled bracket for installing shelves on a drywall wall, there's no better option for fastening than an anchor for drywall.
Once the anchor for the wall is placed into the wall via the L-bracket that supports shelves, the wall gets placed between the flat edges of the blade locking of the heavy-duty drywall anchor and the flat surface of the L-bracket.
6.5mm DART Super Flute SDS Hammer Drill Bit results in a tight and secure hold on the drywall, which creates the compressed tensile strength of the drywall to be the weakest part.
If the shelf is not removed very forcefully away from the wall, a strong drywall anchor must be able to hold greater weight than other kinds of fasteners if used in conjunction with shelves brackets.
