UAE is celebrating 50 years of its existence with the ongoing "Year of the 50th" with celebrations spread out across the 12 months, including Dubai Expo 2020 that kickstarts today.

All of this is leading up to the UAE national day on December 2, 2021.

The UAE was brought into existence in the year 1971 with a glorious union of the seven Emirates – Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah – a union that stands as a testimony of what unity can achieve in a world where wealth determines all decision-making.

Today, the UAE is a modern, oil-exporting country with a diversified economy that plays a vital role in the region as well as world politics. It’s a grand hub for tourism, retail, and finance. The Abra

The traditional mode of transport in Dubai was the Abra – a half boat made of wood.

Abara is a traditional Arabic word meaning ‘to come across’. One could access this ride from the Dubai Deira Creek and cruise across the historic souqs reveling museums, stunning mosques, etc.

Today, the Abras has grown from a half boat to a one and half boat, equipped with the latest technology and air-conditioning. They can even be chartered privately. These boats give us a glimpse of all new developments, including the business bay, the festival city, the marina, the city walks, etc

One can still hop on the Abra to have a soulful glimpse of the city. Some of these rides still charge only a coin for the ride.

The World Trade Centre.

The Dubai World Trade Centre is one of the oldest high-rise structures and has been standing tall for more than 40 years in the center of Old Dubai and New Dubai. It has now developed into a full-fledged Free Zone where expatriates can own 100% shares in business licenses and have their offices established.

The location also offers club and conference facilities, sports facilities, restaurants and more. The DWTC also houses a world-famous Exhibition Centre which is engaged with events around the year and has developed into one of the busiest exhibition centers in the world.

The DWTC plays a significant role in attracting visitors to Dubai and caters to more 500 events annually.

From the Burj Khalifa to the Harbour Creek

Dubai’s pursuit of excellence brought into reality the Burj Khalifa – an iconic symbol of architectural marvel and human perseverance. The tall tower and the Downtown area show the resolve of the leadership to break barriers and support projects that can create and support new lifestyles.

The Burj stands tall in the Downtown area which houses the famous fountain, the Dubai Mall, the legendary hotels, and restaurants. In true Dubai tradition, the Creek Harbour will house the tallest building around the tranquility of the lagoons in the Ras Al Khor area. This will be called the Dubai Tower (Creek) Tower and will surpass all previous constructed architectural creations and neighborhoods.

This modern community will also boast of natural wildlife and the scenery of the natural lagoons.

Expo 2020

The world Expo that begins today, i.e. 1st October 2021, is a World Expo that was envisioned 8 years ago and has now finally become a reality after being delayed a year due to the pandemic. It’s nothing like anything the world has ever seen and will be the grandest World Expo, covering areas like innovation, sustainability, technology, mobility, virtual connectivity, and more.

Expo 2020 will provide opportunities for entrepreneurs, investors, inventors, thought-leaders, and policymakers to connect, network, and work towards building a more sustainable, more resilient, and more responsible world, together. It will help the world transform for the better as leaders from around 200 countries will converge to share ideas.

Destination Dubai will never slumber and will continue to surprise the resident and visitors with its ever-changing landscape, in enhancement and celebration of human life whether it’s food and culture, sports and leisure, education and technological innovations, and most importantly, the optimum use of nature.
