RBTs are paraprofessionals who work in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or a Board-Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA) supervises RBTs. Before going for the national certification exam, one must first finish a 40-hour training program.

Throughout the country, recognized institutions offer Registered Behavior Technician Training courses. You might be able to get training at your current job, or you could prefer to enroll in a formal class. Board-certified RBT training programs are available both online and in-person through community organizations and educational institutions.

Both online and in-person classes have advantages and disadvantages, so one can choose the curriculum that best suits their needs. Always ensure that a program has been certified by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board to meet the standards for becoming an RBT when choosing one.

Requirements of RBT

To become a qualified RBT, the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) has established several prerequisites. Before applying, you must meet the preset eligibility conditions, which are:

  1. Above 18

  2. Mandatory high school diploma

  3. Able to clear the background check

  4. Completed the 40-hour training course

If the above requirement is fulfilled, you can apply to BACB to take the RBT exam. After completing the RBT exam, you must maintain your certification by being supervised regularly, following the BACB ethical code, and renewing your certificate every year.

RBT Training programs

The 40-hour Registered Behavior Technician Training is designed to provide learners with the knowledge and abilities they need to be successful behavior analysts. Completing an RBT program can help you get the knowledge and skills you need to provide safe and effective behavior analysis services. One of the essential requirements for becoming an RBT is to complete an RBT training program. The BACB does not offer training courses; nevertheless, classes are available through a variety of sources, including:

  • If you are working to provide behavior analysis service, your agency or supervisor will give you Registered Behavior Technician Training.

  • Many companies offer 40-hour registered behavioral technician training in person or online.

  • There are many universities also which provide the training.

It is critical that the 40-hour RBT training you take is intended to meet BACB requirements, regardless of where you finish it. To verify that you completed the 40-hour training requirement, you must send a copy of your 40-hour training certificate with your RBT certification application.
