In the age of digital marketing, an advertisement is almost everywhere. From the big screen in Times Square to the handheld devices in your hand. The advertisements eat a lot of your conscious energy. Not only does it divert your attention, but it also takes you all over the internet. Furthermore, most of these advertisements we do not need.

It is not a good feeling to be constantly bombarded with advertisements on your devices. It not only indicates that your privacy is being unnecessarily trespassed, but multiple companies are also exchanging your data without your consent. So, now, there is a way to better your privacy. If you are using an iOS device, then you can configure your device in such a way that the advertisement does not follow you all across the internet.

Suppose you have bought a pair of sports shoes from a store. The moment you register your data on the database, then data gets transferred to another company. Afterward, a string of continuous messages and notifications regarding advertisements related to shoes would start flashing on your screen.

The latest operating system upgrade in iOS devices called iOS 14.5 can enhance your privacy level significantly. By using this feature, you can maintain your privacy during online shopping. And, then the continuous advertisements will not bother you much. You can safeguard your user data by enabling the ad tracking blocker within the applications that you are using.

Among other features that came with the iOS upgrade in April, an ad tracking blocker was one of the added features. The operating system upgrades iOS 14.5 arrived this year in April and created a lot of controversies.

The iOS setting to block advertisements from several companies did not go down easily with digital marketing companies and tech giants Twitter and Facebook. It also created a war of words between CEOs of two mainstream tech companies. Mark Zuckerberg made a point that it would be impossible for fledgling digital marketing companies to grow without targeted ads. However, Tim Cook responded by saying that there are different ways in which companies can profit.

How to Enable the New iOS Setting "App Tracking Transparency Feature"?

The latest feature included by the iOS 14.5 upgrade is called the "App Tracking Transparency" feature. The iOS setting drew heavy criticism from Apple’s competitors. Basically, the iOS setting prohibits certain applications from using your user data without your prior consent. It means that if you enable the feature, any application will not be able to transfer or sell your data to a third-party vendor.

The whole concept of targeted ads runs on user information. And now, with this setting called "App Tracking Transparency Feature," Apple renders all the applications to not share any information given by the end-user.

With this iOS setting, any app will not be able to share the location, user id, advertising id, or any information. If an app wants to use the data, it will have to take prior permission from the user.

In order to enable the feature, you can hover over the Settings option on your iOS device. After doing that, proceed to view the unlisted option. And, then, find and select "privacy," and then identify and choose "tracking." Next, you can render the feature to allow certain applications to track your in-application activity or not. Whenever you open an application, you see the same feature as well.

You can also adopt the same procedure if you wish to disable the "App Tracking Transparency."

Conclusion

Despite certain criticisms from companies such as Facebook, a new iOS Setting unveiled by Apple is in full swing. It does hurt companies from profiting from targeted advertisements. However, it has garnered support from customers and different groups who advocate for user privacy. With this iOS setting termed "App Tracking Transparency," you can stop the application from tracking your activities in the application and all over the internet.
