Over the last few years, electric scooters have dominated the streets of many cities across the globe. Why? The answer is simple: riding an e-scooter is said to be relatively cheap, fast and easy. Is this entirely true? Is riding an electric scooter really effortless? What can you do to make your first ride go smoothly? Read our article to find out.

What to do before your ride

Regardless of whether you have bought or rented an electric scooter, you should always carefully watch it from all sides before your ride. There are many differences among scooters made by different manufacturers, therefore it is always a good idea to check how to accelerate and break in a particular model. What is more, a quick check is always recommended: turn on the lights, checks the condition of the tires and see if the e-scooter is fully charged.

Prepare safety equipment

If you have never travelled on an electric scooter before, you may not really know what to expect. This is why, we recommend putting on your safety equipment – or at least a helmet. This will help you avoid some serious injuries. If you feel that a helmet is not enough, consider wearing elbow and knee pads. The choice of footwear is equally important – opt for comfortable sneakers or trainers with slip resistant soles.

Choose good weather

Never embark on your first e-scooter ride when it is rainy or slippery, as this can be dangerous for you. Riding in difficult weather conditions requires some sense of intuition that you won’t have during your first ride. In order to acquire this, you need to learn how your e-scooter responds to your body and your commands. Don’t rush things!

Now you can try!

Once you are familiar with your e-scooter and its controls, you can proceed to ride it! Firstly, put the e-scooter on a flat road or sidewalk, preferably with no bumps or holes. Then raise the kickstand and put your weak leg on your e-scooter's deck. Stretch your second leg forward and place both hands on the handlebars. Place your strong leg onto the deck, right behind the weak leg. Start to accelerate smoothly. Use your strong leg to balance your body while on the move. If you want to turn, don't make any jerky movements. Try to rotate the handlebars as smoothly as possible. The same applies to the brakes. If you want to slow down, never pull hard on the brake lever. Otherwise, you may fall off your e-scooter and get injured.

Go for reliability

In many cases the source of problems that beginner riders experience is hidden in the product they use. Budget e-scooters, usually available in supermarkets, are not always the best choice. Firstly, an electric scooter should be powerful, resistant and responsive. If you are looking for a model which is also lightweight and offers an intuitive ride, we recommend Apollo Air

  • an e-scooter which delivers safety, durability and efficiency.

We know how exciting your first e-scooter ride can be! However, remember to keep a cool head and stay safe while you are out on your two wheels.
