Indian Administrative Service (IAS), previously known as the Imperial Civil Service (ICS) is the Civil Services Examination that is one of the toughest competitive exams in India. It is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission for the recruitment of officers for the All-India Administrative Civil Service. IAS is the permanent bureaucracy in India and forms a part of the executive branch. It is one of the three All India Services, its cadre can be employed by both the Union Government, the State Governments, and public-sector undertakings. Indian Administrative Service (IAS) has been termed as one of the prestigious services among the 24 government services like IPS, IFS (Foreign), IFS (Forest), IP & TAFS, IAAS, IRS, IDAS, CMSE, IRTS, IRAS, IRPS, it's, CAPF-AF to name a few. All these examinations are conducted by UPSC in the form of the Civil Services Examination (CSE) for selecting the appropriate candidates for the jobs. HOW TO PREPARE FOR IAS EXAM

A question that is the first basic lesson that many people have in mind is that whether they should start the preparation in graduation itself or wait for it to complete. Students in the 11th or 12th class also get confused about whether they should start preparing now or not. So, to clear this thing in the very beginning, that when you are into your graduation or into schooling you should focus more on that part as is very important because the same knowledge will ultimately help you in clearing this exam so the basic focus should be on your graduation and high school, that is the first thing. So, when starting in the end years of your graduation you should have a goal that you really want to clear the civil services but at the end of your graduation, you should start focusing on this exam.

The second question which confuses the aspirants is, how to start?

That is a very important question because the syllabus is very vast and it is very difficult for beginners to understand the pattern of this exam so here let me share some mistakes which most people commit so that you can have a good overall plan for clearing this exam. As everyone knows UPSC is called the mother of all exams so you require ruthless determination in this exam. Everyone knows it's a fact that the success ratio of this exam is as less as 0.1%. Lakhs of candidates appear in this exam.

The second most important thing is that there is no space for committing any mistake in this exam. Many people have given interviews and then next time they have flagged in prelims. You need to understand that it's a long process and you see many failures during this exam. The third thing is your optional. You have to select your optional very wisely because ultimately your selection depends on the marks of optional also. So, when you're coming after graduation the main reason behind selecting your optional should be your interest. Many people say that I have this particular subject in graduation but I'm not comfortable in it so just go for it. If you are very comfortable in your chosen subject, it doesn't matter what is the kind of that particular subject, what is the marks distribution or how many students are taking that subject. If you think you're confident and you can get marks in that particular subject, just go for it. So what you can do for the optional selection is to shortlist a few subjects like economics, public administration, and political science.

Read a few books on these subjects and choose the subject that is of interest to and is your strongest point. Now, I will come to the whole strategy of how should you prepare for this exam. So basically, what happens in our college system normally is that in June graduation gets completed and the candidates start preparing for this exam so what can be done is an uptick in June as the starting point and from June to next June So, for four months you have to start your GS preparation and optional preparation simultaneously and in October you have to start your optional. At least for one and 1 1/2 months, you need to analyze the previous papers to get an idea of what UPSC is asking and what is the demand of UPSC. The easier it is for you to understand, the easier it will be for you to clear this exam.

IS COACHING REQUIRED OR NOT?

Some people ask this question, whether coaching is required the moment they enter this UPSC preparation. So I will say that in the starting coaching helps you in putting you in a particular direction and helps in setting your daily routine and schedule because a lot of things are required to study, so what to study and what would not be studied becomes a huge deal.
