1. Eliminate everything

Moving all your possessions into bags, boxes, and other containers is a daunting task. It is best to make it less stressful by cutting down on junk as far as is possible. Before packing one box, make an arduous purge of unneeded or unneeded things. You'll have more small boxes to take in, less to fill, and fewer things to pack--and you'll be able to begin life in your new home with an uncluttered space.

2. Create a folder for moving

Begin making a list of new addresses, rent or purchase documents, and moving contracts, and much more in one place. (Consider an actual hard copy rather than a digital copy for the case where the battery of your phone or computer dies during the relocation.) If there are any questions in the process of planning or during the move itself, then you'll have the solution (and documents of contracts, payments, and other documents) in your possession.

3. Make sure to pack as far ahead as you can

In the ideal scenario, you'll be aware of the move (even when you're not sure of your final destination) days or even months before. Begin by packing items that aren't in season and other things you will not want to miss. If you're moving during the summer, it's possible to prepare winter coats ahead of time, and most likely, books and other one-time items. If it's finally the time for you to relocate, lots of things will be prepared to go, leaving you with less work to do.

4. Get your tickets in the early hours of

It is advisable to make reservations early if moving companies hire supplies, rent them, or hire experts like painters or cleaners to tackle the home. If you wait, it could result in paying a higher cost or even not having the truck or movers all, particularly in the case of peak season.

5. Plan your utilities for your new residence

After the dates have been set, call your utility companies to arrange service for your new residence once the dates are finalized. It isn't a good idea to get exhausted after the moving process, only to discover that the power, water or heating is not working. Plan it and note your demands in your moving folder. Also, make sure that you request service to stop for the date of your departure at your home.

6. Make sure you have the basics in your bag

In the evening before moving, but the essentials of your day--a change of clothes, a toothbrush, important toys and stuffed animals for children, medication or paperwork, etc.--into bags or suitcases to carry with you in your car, the truck's cab, or when you travel on the airplane. If something happens and your moving truck is lost, you'll have a few essentials in your bag.

7. Invest in Equipment

A few days before the big moving day, it would help if you stocked up on things you need. Purchase or order boxes, bandages for permanent adhesive markers, packaging tape, paper towels, and garbage bags. (If they're not all utilized in the process of moving and you don't need them, they'll be helpful following the move!) The final thing you'd like to do is to be forced to go to the grocery store while packing your moving boxes or making sure that everything is removed from the home.

If you need larger equipment for moving, you can consider renting tools for moving from a company specializing in moving. (If you employ an agency for moving, you'll probably find that they use the tools they use.) If you are frequently shifting, it is possible that you would be better off buying this equipment. If you decide to purchase, rent or borrow, be sure you have a furniture dolly and covers for furniture and tie-down straps or ropes available for the duration of your relocation.

8. Find a vehicle equipped with a ramp for loading.

If you're DIY movers and want to do it yourself, you'll require a truck that has ramps. It's possible to lease a vehicle without a ramp; however, the effort (and the effort) of lifting each piece of furniture or box sufficient to fit it in the truck can add hours of sore muscles - to the process.
