The Bhartiya Group has been the pioneer in the production of oxygen, nitrogen and other industrial gases in India. They started operations in 1927 and have several oxygen and nitrogen plants in the capital, New Delhi. The gases are manufactured and exported for industrial and medical use.

Oxygen is available in abundance in the atmosphere and its uses are innumerable. But to separate oxygen from other gases in nature is not an easy task. Thus, companies like The Bhartiya Group develop oxygen plants to scientifically extract oxygen. In this process, air is used as a feedstock and oxygen is separated from it using membrane separation techniques. Other types of plants, referred to as cryogenic separation plants, are used for this purpose as well. Here, air is divided into all its components and they are captured separately. Dr. Carl von Linde invented the process of air separation in 1895.

A similar process is used to produce nitrogen. Nitrogen holds great technical importance and can be produced in nitrogen plants with 99 percent purity. To capture nitrogen, air is passed through distillation columns and nitrogen gets separated at cryogenic temperatures, ranging around 173°C.

There are various processes through which gases like oxygen and nitrogen can be obtained. Another instrument used to produce oxygen is referred to as an oxygen generator. It is a device that captures a heavy concentration of oxygen from a gas supply, and delivers a mixture enriched in oxygen. Oxygen generators make use of pressure swing absorption technology to deliver oxygen. The resultant gas produced through this process is mostly used for healthcare purposes in clinics or homes, since the use of liquid or pressurized oxygen is too dangerous or inconvenient in these cases. Oxygen generators are extremely useful in emergency-care situations, since they are not as dangerous as oxygen cylinders. This quality makes them particularly useful in military and disaster situations.

Oxygen generators are used for producing oxygen for industrial purposes as well. Their safety and cost effectiveness makes them a much more viable option for industrial use.

The Bhartiya Group excels in the production of these gases and is the leading exporter for them. Apart from gas manufacturing plants, the Group is also involved in the production of crash fire tenders and security services.
