What is Disability Accommodation?
Posted: Nov 15, 2021
Disability Accommodation is catered to those who have a functional impairment in some manner and require assistance. Such accommodation is designed keeping in mind their specific needs to make the stay more comfortable and easier. Most homes are constructed not keeping in mind the needs of disabled persons, thus making it difficult for them to living in these spaces. Disability accommodation specially understands this and therefore ensures that accessibility is of foremost priority. Ruhil Care provides Short-term, Medium-term and Long-term accommodation. Located in one of the prime locations in Australia, it is a growing space to rely on to live according to one’s interests and preferences with assistance that allows them to pursue their personal goals as they desire.
Funding and Payment
Ruhil Care is a supporter of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), hence, all the payments can be made according to your personal NDIS plan. Private payments without NDIS funding can also be made. Our arrangements can be adjusted according to the plan that you have opted for in the NDIS. To be eligible for NDIS, you must be an Australian citizen or a permanent resident under the age of 65 with a life-long disability for which you require assistance.
Short-term or Respite Accommodation
Accommodation that suits the needs of disabled people are not very many, and hence we try to make sure that all their needs are covered and that they feel welcome to join us. Our short-term accommodation or Respite is a convenient option if the person you rely on usually is unavailable for a certain period of time. Here we provide support for a short period of time so you can live comfortably with our assistance. This is also an option during emergency situations when you are suddenly out of help for a while; subject to our vacancies we can provide a space for you to temporarily stay.
Respite is also an option when your caregiver could take a break. Caring for many hours together can be exhausting and we recognise their needs. During such times, personal caregivers can take rest and stay away while we stay with the disabled person and assist them as they need. Our accommodation also has an outdoor kitchen and several activities as part of its day program, which one can join during their stay. Short Term accommodation helps in continuing the routine and activities that were done with the caregiver, without making their absence felt.
Long-term Accommodation
Long-term accommodation here is also a comfortable, solitary stay with personal support for a longer duration. Personal caregivers are then appointed who take care of every need while you stay here. A routine will be followed by the caregiver and there will be daily activities and programs to ensure that the stay is just like at home. This is a great opportunity to make friends, and be part of a larger community. Throughout, a fully qualified staff will be available to serve any needs that arise. Our homes are also built in a way that is accessible to everyone. Advanced assistive technology is an integral part of our homes, so as to maximise their functionality and ease, while our members live comfortably.
Guest Stay
Guests can stay at Ruhil Care for a day, overnight, a weekend or a few weeks. These stays can be informed to us in advance so we are prepared and allocate any vacancies, but emergency situations are also considered. Our experienced staff can take care of your needs as well, so you don’t have to constantly be vigilant at the centre and take the chance to rest as well.
Shared Homes
Our long-stay options also include shared homes. This provides a space that one can share with other disabled persons, thus having people constantly for company. If living alone feels scary, this is the perfect option to live with potential friends and form a larger social circle. These can also help in the process of socialisation while also continuing to build self-dependence. A specially formulated process ensures that the people that you share your personal space with fit your life interests and preferences so that you face no discomfort in the long run. Housemates can share responsibilities and assume varied roles in the household, thus providing a sense of purpose, fulfilment and independence. However, staff will always be available for daily tasks like cleaning and laundry, as well as any other needs that may arise.
Ruhil Care aims to build inclusive spaces that encourage independence, ambition, and supports the goals that a disabled person may have. While our society constantly hinders their abilities and diminishes their capacity to live, we intend to equip them with spaces that acknowledge their dreams and helps them achieve them. While inclusivity is still far from achievement in our current society, Ruhil Care aspires to be one step into the ideal society that recognises and values our disabled community and treats them the way they deserve to be.
