Making difference with innovations

The mobile applications have made many people rich. It tells something that at the moment the number one on the Forbes billionaires list is Carlos Slim HelĂș, a business man who has made a large part of his fortune within the mobile phone industry. The second richest is who else than Bill Gates, the Microsoft billionaire, also related to the tech industry. In my opinion the next revolutionary thing in mobile industry will be new hardware that allows highly developed health care software and applications. Of course first they will not be available for everyone because the prices will be extremely high but after a decade or two the portable equipment will become more common and affordable for regular citizen. It is the law of modern commerce; the first prototypes will cost fortunes to create but once you have the recipe it will be reasonably cheap to multiple the concept. If you are the inventor you should try to protect your inventions with patents and copyright laws, so you can maximize the income you get out of it. Poor immaterial rights management leads to the point where someone steals your ideas.

Pharmaceutical industry gives a good example of high research and development costs. A new medicament has to be safe for people and the development process is extremely costly and time consuming, but after the new drug is available on the market, it is reasonably easy to make both legal and illegal replicas. It is a big thing to be first on the market, but competitors will follow you quickly if there is big money involved. It is the same thing with software and other technical innovations, such as digital imaging software for dentistry.

Being successful on a highly competitive market it means that you should belong to the top three players within the industry. Smaller rivals can make some money by coming up with innovative improvements but if you want to make real difference you need to have the resources and capacity to make it big. Global launch needs an effective supply chain, powerful partners and a wide distribution network. Modern technology has made the logistics faster and the information sharing and availability easier. New challenges are for example brand image controlling worldwide within culturally different geographic areas. A company has to make a decision about how it is going to do its marketing and advertising. Should it make global campaigns or adjust the advertisements locally.
