Posted: Nov 26, 2021
Playdates are super fun and quite important for toddlers. At the age of two or three, kids cannot really play independently, so playdates allow them to explore different resources and develop their communication skills.
If you are planning to host a playdate, please make sure all the activities and games are age-appropriate. Kids should participate and enjoy the activities with other kids.
Here, Daycare center teachers have shared some playdate activities that are enjoyable and would keep kids engaged for a long time.
Shadow Puppet Show –Toddlers love playing with flashlights so, you can have a shadow puppet show for them. Make one room in your house a little dark and use flashlights creatively to have the shadow puppet show. You can cut out some shapes of animals and objects and then stick the papers with chopsticks. Kids would love to see the shadows of different sizes and shapes.
Dance party –It is so adorable to see kids dance to some catchy tunes. When everyone is together, play some music and let the kids unleash whatever wiggles they have inside them.
Playing Memory Games – Playing memory games with kids is not only fun but challenging also. Moreover, this type of game help kids develops their concentration and memory power. To play the game, you have to spread out different types of objects on a tray and cover them up with a cloth. Set the timer for one minute and when kids are ready remove the cloth. They will look at the tray carefully for one minute and then they have to memorize and say/write what all objects were there on the tray.
Read Books to Kids –In Daycare Pasadena, CA playschools, teachers read-aloud stories to their students to keep them engaged and develop their listening skills. If you are arranging playdates for toddlers, reading books to them would be a way to keep them entertained. Toddlers love listening to stories, so pick an interactive picture book and let them use their senses to explore the book. You can use different props to make your reading session more interesting for the young guests. Try to involve them in the activity by asking them some questions about the story or simply asking them to predict the story.
Painting –Painting is arguably the best way to let the little ones express their thoughts and emotions. Let the little ones wear their art t-shirts and express themselves using different colors. Although this activity may turn up a little messy, would not it be great to see the colorful happy faces all around you?
Watch a Movie –Watching movies is a great playdate activity that would keep the kids engaged. If you see kids are feeling tired or getting bored, you might want to play a movie on the screen. This is a low-energy activity and would help kids to relax.
Playing Board Games - According to the Daycare teachers playing board games is a great way to teach children about teamwork, patience, and how to win or lose gracefully. So, encourage kids to play different board games like Word Scrabble, Snake, and ladder, Chess, Monopoly, etc.
Baking Party –If you want to win some extra brownie points, throw a baking party for the playdate. Whether you have decided to make cookies, brownies, or anything else, kids would surely have a blast baking with you.
