Are you dreaming to study abroad? If yes, you must be aware of the statement of purpose. It is one of the most important parts of your study abroad application. It is a short essay that talks about students’ backgrounds & goals that help universities to distinguish one student from another.

This single document can decide whether you get a letter of acceptance from a university or not. Many Study abroad consultants in Delhi guide students to write this challenging piece of document. Here, we are sharing the basic structure of SOP that can help you understand how to write it perfectly:

  • Your Story: Start with a brief introduction about you. Mention your family background and values. It will help universities to understand what kind of person you are and what values you have in general. You can also mention which program you are applying for and when you want to start.
  • Your Academic details: This is the most important part of SOP. Highlight all the relevant qualifications you have that can help you to get admission to the course you are interested in. You can also mention relevant academic projects you have submitted earlier.
  • Work Experience if any: If you are planning to apply for an MBA course and you have already worked in a relevant field for some years, do mention it. When you mention relevant work experience it gives you extra privilege over other students. It shows you are a committed and hard-working person and want to achieve success in that particular field for that even if you have to go back to college, you are ready to do so.
  • Your interests: Write about extracurricular activities you participated in during school and college life. You can also mention about your other interests that can talk more about your personality. But you don’t need to talk about every single thing, just choose relevant ones and skills you learned during that activity.
  • Answer why a particular university or country: In this paragraph, you can discuss about why you are choosing a particular university or country for your study. Explain about the university’s history and reputation that you are aware of and inspired of and want to be part of it while making it grow in future.
  • Then discuss, why a particular country only. Every country has its own culture and plus points, make yourself aware of it and how it will work for you, you can talk about it. Like, if it is English speaking country and you can perfectly gel with their culture or are ready to learn it without having any doubt in mind, do mention it in your SOP.
  • About course of interest: Earlier you mention which program you want to study, now in this paragraph discuss about why you want to study that program. What skills you are expecting to learn that can help you grow in future.
  • Your Goal for the future: End statement of purpose by discussing about what you want to achieve with this degree. Will it help you to get a better job or you plan to have your own business. You will return to your home country or want to work internationally. This way university can also understand and help you to achieve your future goal and guide you better.
