For many Torontonians, winter doesn’t only mean ruminating about whether the furnace will work alright or the snow will block the main street. It also means putting in an effort to prevent the cold weather from wrecking havoc on their skin. From flack skin to acne and eczema, winter throws in a lot of challenges for people at risk of skin conditions.

One of the most common effects on cold weather is dry skin. Other skin conditions include itchy and blistering skin. These conditions are especially severe for people with chronic skin issues. The low temperatures cause irritation on the skin, thus leading to many of the aforementioned conditions. It also strips the skin of moisture, which further exacerbates the condition of dry skin.

However, with proper care, you can reduce the severity of these conditions. Let us take a look at a few tips that will help you reduce the effect of cold weather on your skin.

  • Moisturize frequently

As we mentioned before, cold weather strips the skin of moisture, which leads to problems, such as dry skin, eczema, and blisters. Moisturizing your skin every few hours with a good moisturizer is a great way of lessening the impact of cold weather. When buying a moisturizer for the winter, it’s advisable to go for one which is ‘oil-based’ as it will help the skin retain more moisture. However, even oil-based moisturizers need to be chosen with care, as they can cause clogging of skin pores. It’s recommended that you stick to avocado and almond oil moisturizers.

  • Stay hydrated

Keeping yourself hydrated is beneficial for your overall health and it’s a no-brainer that it has a positive effect on your skin as well. As most skin problems in the winter arise due to dryness, keeping yourself hydrated can definitely help you take care of your skin.

  • Exfoliate regularly

Exfoliation is great for the skin in any season, but in winters, it especially helps in keeping the skin fresh and rejuvenated. It removes dead cells from the skin and gives it a fresh look. Exfoliation will also help moisturizers penetrate the skin more deeply.

  • Cover up

Protecting your skin from the direct impact of the winter chill is a great way of caring for your skin. Wearing gloves and covering your face with a scarf can help prevent a host of skin issues.

  • Humidify the air

Your heating system might be doing a pretty good job at keeping your rooms warm, but it can also make the air devoid of any humidity. This can increase the risk of dry skin; therefore, it’s advisable that you consider installing a humidifier.

  • Visit a skin clinic

A number of people make it a point to visit a dermatologist before the winter sets in. This helps them take the necessary steps to prepare their skin for the onslaught of the winters. Getting a facial can also help clear the deal cells from your skin and start the new season afresh. There are a number of skin clinics in Toronto, but you should choose one after doing a bit of research.

These were a few tips on taking care of your skin in the winter. We hope the information mentioned in this article is beneficial to you.
