Why Should You Give Strength Training Importance?

When we talk of weight loss, most of us understand that we need to focus on cardio workouts such as running or cycling. Lifting weights may seem really slow and not very effective. As cardio is a fast-paced workout, you may assume it will help burn more calories in a short period.

In a way, this theory is true, which is why many people forget to use the strength training section of the gym. Hence, you need to understand why you should lift weights.

1. Continue Burning Calories After Your Workout Session:

Cardio helps you burn many calories in a short period, but after that, your body gets into an ideal state. Strength training works differently. You lose calories during the session, but the calorie-burning continues even after the session as your body works to repair the used muscles. This means you will lose calories while idle. Who does not want to lose weight while sitting idle? Hence, do not skip this session.

2. Your Body Will Get Toned:

Another misconception many women have is that lifting too many weights will make them really muscular. It would have been beneficial if it were easy to gain muscles. Unfortunately, gaining muscle is tough, especially for females due to their hormones. Hence, you need not worry about getting muscular. The only difference you will see is that your body will get toned.

In fact, try only cardio for a month, and you will definitely see weight loss, but you will also start losing body shape as there will be muscle loss too. This will also not make you look toned. When you lift weights, you gain muscles that give your body a toned look.

3. Your Metabolism Will Increase:

An increase of muscles in the body helps in increasing body metabolism. This means your body burns calories faster, which will help you lose weight more quickly. Hence, weight training accelerates the process of weight loss. Do not worry if you feel you are gaining weight during strength training. You are gaining muscles, and they weigh more than fat. Your body is replacing fat with muscles, which is why you will lose inches, but weigh the same or higher. Use a measuring tape instead to measure your progress.

When we talk about weight lifting, it need not be just dumbbells. You can use a resistance band or get involved in activities that use muscles such as kickboxing or Axe Throwing San Antonio. There are many strength training workout options available to keep the sessions enjoyable.

The Bottom Line:

It is an excellent habit to research before you believe in a theory. The importance of strength training is something not many people read about, so they end up doing an incomplete workout session. Ideally, do strength training thrice a week and cardio on the remaining days. Avoid resistance training daily as it will cause excessive wear and tear of muscles ad not much recovery time. A balanced workout is the only way to get the best results.
