Hydrogenation Plants – Highly Effective and Low on Energy Consumption
Posted: Nov 07, 2014
The use of vegetable oils in food preparations and for other applications has been in vogue for many centuries. But with increasing awareness of health among the public at large, the presence of unsaturated fats in the oils is not recommended for human consumption and the oil refining facilities have a hydrogenation plant in their process to modify the oils and fats in them. Oils extracted from soya seeds, cotton seeds and sunflower oil extraction plants employ the hydrogenation plants to bring about the exothermic reaction with the help of a catalyst like nickel to result in the hydrogenation of the oils in production. Hydrogenation Plants Suppliers would make the plants to suit the specific requirements of their customers. Let us understand more in detail.
What Exactly Happens In Hydrogenation?
In pure chemical terms, the process of hydrogenation means adding of couple of hydrogen (H2) atoms to molecules present in the vegetable oils to ensure that the balancing act of reducing their unsaturated fats to the saturation levels gets performed. So after the hydrogenation process, there will be enough saturated or dissolvable fats in the oil, making it healthier for consumption. As stated, this is a purely exothermic reaction, where there are three components; the unsaturated oil, the hydrogen generating source and third is the catalyst which makes the reaction possible, without itself involving anywhere near. The actual process takes place inside the vessel holding the mix. The catalyst most used in such processes in Nickel. There is an agitating effect given to ensure uniform reaction. The role of the catalyst becomes important because hydrogen does not directly react with all substrates. So the hydrogenerator sends the hydrogen gas to the perforated surface of the nickel catalyst placed in the process vessel, and as the oil or any other substrate to be desaturated, flows through the reaction between the catalyst and hydrogen ensures the migration of hydrogen to the substrate and the process is complete. The temperature and pressure to be maintained, of the material and the vessel, will vary and will be done by the process supervisors.
Advantages and Plant Suppliers
There are several advantages of the catalytic hydrogenation process; the gas dispersion is better, consumes less energy overall and the plants are automated requiring very little human intervention. So if you are planning to locate Hydrogenation Plants Suppliers, select and verify the top manufacturers of these equipments and make the right choice.
