An MBA in Marketing Management has become one of the most chosen degrees by both learners and employers in recent years. With the shift to online and digital marketing, most businesses currently have their in-house marketing teams to bring traffic and clients to the organisation.

While there are several specific marketing domains, an MBA graduate who has specialised in marketing has a plethora of job options, and their degree is not restricted to just marketing jobs alone. Instead, the skillset can be put towards dozens of other professional options, from consulting to entrepreneurial administration.

What are Marketing Management and basic entry requirements?

An MBA in marketing syllabus provides complete knowledge about consumer trends, sales, strategies, research and marketing in various fields, allowing them to land a job at the heart of organisations.

The basic entry requirements for an MBA in Marketing are scoring good marks in GMAT and GPA and a bachelor’s course. As with any other MBA specialisation or degree, admissions officers will be looking to see at least 2-years of experience before accepting a learner into a program.

Prospective MBA candidates require a broad skillset. Well-rounded individuals with skills in mathematics and softer skills, such as communications, tend to fare well in MBA in marketing. Public Relations (PR)

PR specialists are responsible for growing, shaping, and maintaining an organisation’s reputation and brand. Their common duties include:

  • Working with the press.

They manage an organisation’s communications, including crisis management and internal communications. For example, most PR programs include strategic communications, media relations, interactive media writing, investor relations, public affairs, and crisis management.

Marketing Research (MR) and Analytics

MR professionals analyse data to determine the most suitable marketing strategies to funnel clients towards a company’s product. Often this includes gathering information about target markets or clients, monitoring marketing performance, and identifying marketing opportunities.

People usually enrol in a degree program that offers a marketing research specialisation to gain these skills. These programs include a curriculum in market research methods, business research methods, user behaviour, strategic marketing, financial reporting and analysis and opportunity assessment.

Marketing Management

A marketing management degree entails practical applications, including methods, marketing techniques, and organisational management. Marketing managers often engage in brand audits, implement planning, develop marketing strategies, and evaluate and revise projects or campaigns.

Many marketing management specialisations exist primarily at the graduate level, but some undergraduate-level courses in general business degrees cover similar topics. For example, the curriculum often covers marketing and advertising trends, market research, marketing strategy, brand management, and buyer behaviour.

Social Media Marketing (SMM)

A degree in SMM teaches you marketing communication techniques specific to social media. More significantly, social media marketing includes gaining traffic and online attention to a company or organisation through its social media sites. Therefore, most of these degree opportunities cover implementing and assessing social media strategies and creating compelling digital and SMM campaigns across platforms.

For instance, social media specialists must know how to implement consistent marketing strategies in a shortened-text dominant platform like Twitter versus a primarily visual platform like Instagram. In addition, many programs offer additional certifications in social media specific analytical platforms like Google Analytics and Hootsuite and curriculum on topics like mobile technologies, search engine optimisation, web analytics, and viral marketing to general marketing classes.
